Internship Overview

We are looking for interns to join us for our 2024 Summer Internship Program! This 12-week program is set to begin June 3 rd , so if you are looking for an incredible opportunity to partner with the best and brightest minds in the industry, apply today. What It’s Like Interning with Us!

Weekly Events— just because the internship is remote, doesn’t mean we don’t have time for fun! Last summer, we hosted an Actian tie-dye shirt event, tiny camp fire—complete with smores(!!!), a murder mystery party, and so much more Time with Executives— Interns all get a chance to connect with our executive team through panel discussions, 1:1s, Q&A meetings, and events Workshops & Tech Tuesday’s— Interns all participate in Tech Tuesday’s where they get to learn more about Actian specific technologies, as well as workshops geared towards new professionals Opportunity to travel – we will be hosting a hybrid orientation! For those that are interested in being in person for orientation, we will fly you to our Austin, TX office.

Position Overview

Actian’s Experience Design Team is a highly multidisciplinary group consisting of UX and Visual Designers, and Content Strategist. We are at the forefront of creating simple and intuitive user experience designs that enhance the lives of our end users. Our goal is to build effortless designs that enable customers and users to innovate their solutions easily and quickly. 

We are seeking a UX Design intern to create interaction design patterns and components to simplify our user experience. You'll work with designers, researchers, product managers, and engineers to collect data, conduct research, understand user goals, and explore and improve solutions. 

Your primary focus will be on enhancing the user experience by simplifying interaction design patterns, components, and illustration skills. This role offers a unique opportunity for you to leverage your strengths and experience personal growth. You'll thrive in a highly collaborative environment, working closely with our design, project, and research teams. Plus, you'll have a dedicated mentor to guide you every step of the way.

Capstone Overview

The capstone project offers an opportunity for candidates to demonstrate their ability to synthesize research insights into practical design solutions, showcasing creativity and foresight in UX design. As a UX Design Intern, you will conduct in-depth design research to identify emerging trends and user needs. Leveraging these findings, you will craft a comprehensive family of design components that are not only innovative but also forward-looking. This task involves conceptualizing and developing interaction design patterns and components aligned with industry best practices and future user expectations.

Responsibilities

Assist and collaborate with team members and cross-functional stakeholders in developing product solutions and creating design mock-ups and prototypes Synthesize research insights into practical design solutions while demonstrating creativity and foresight in UX design Conduct in-depth design research to identify emerging trends and user needs Utilize findings to craft a comprehensive family of design components that are not only innovative but also forward-looking The task involves conceptualizing and developing interaction design patterns and components that align with industry best practices and future user expectations

Nice to Have

Proficiency in motion design software for creating micro interaction design components Skill in crafting data visualizations for clear and compelling communication of information An online portfolio is highly encouraged for consideration Detail-oriented with a keen eye for visual design and typography Proficient in conceptualizing design ideas, creating storyboards, being skilled in illustration, and putting together interactive prototypes A strong passion for creating simple and intuitive interaction and interface designs The ideal candidate is pursuing design degrees in Communication Design, Graphic Design, or Interaction Design in an undergraduate program at an accredited university

Requirements

Must be actively enrolled in a college degree program Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

$20 - $30 an hour
