Director Medical Systems and Operations

OverviewThe Director, Medical Affairs Operations, Systems and Process is a leadership role within Global Medical Affairs organization that reports directly to the VP of Medical Excellence, Operations and Planning providing insight on strategic direction and held accountable for assisting and driving execution of the vision of Global Medical Excellence and Operations. This role is responsible for managing people and building optimal teams and talent and instills operational discipline by leveraging a quality systems mindset, improving operational efficiencies and streamlining processes. The successful candidate will lead several global medical affairs initiatives. In addition, she/he will also have the responsibility enabling our Medical organization capability via processes and systems that are customer focused, effective, and compliant. Key ResponsibilitiesOversees complex initiatives with global scope and impact aligned with key Medical Affairs operational prioritiesCollaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans to address themMonitor and report on the progress of continuous projects to senior managementAnalyze data and metrics to identify trends and opportunities for process improvementManages, leads, and supports professional development of several members of Medical Excellence and Operations teamPartners with Strategic Technology in developing the Medical Affairs systems roadmap and manages implementation and steady state operations, including systems/technologies. Examples may include MRB (Medical Review Board) process, medical information and communication platformsSupports VP of Medical Excellence and Operations in planning Town Halls, leadership off-sites, bi-weekly leadership team meetings and other internal communicationsStays current with key initiatives across Commercial, Medical and G&A and supports medical leadership colleagues and their teams in achieving deliverables against organizational prioritiesPartners with members of the broader Process and Systems network across Alnylam to identify operational efficienciesExhibits deep subject matter expertise in operations, project management and strong business acumenParticipates in the development and management of the global MA operations capabilities, policies, and proceduresProvides strategic leadership through facilitating fit for purpose processes and enabling technology solutions. Partners with cross functional/cross matrix team using change management approach in implementing harmonized processes and technology for global Medical AffairsGuides the development of effective assessment and remediation frameworks and/or practices. Ensures coordination between the regions and expertise areas to drive consistency in approach and implementation and develop mechanisms/forums for best practice sharing around the worldCollaborates/partners with country medical colleagues to ensure global processes, tools, and training are adding effectiveness and compliance value at the local levelCharters initiatives, leads, and executes project work in the areas of KOL engagement, data generation, and medical informationFoster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation throughout Medical Affairs organization QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Business, or Healthcare or Master’s degreeMinimum five years relevant Medical Affairs or equivalent related experience (e.g. Process and Systems, Medical Operations)Relevant process and systems implementation and improvementDeep understanding of the environment, evolution and global nature of Medical AffairsManaging people and high performing teamsAbility to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing, ambiguous environment and to motivate a team to do the sameLeading cross-functional, global initiatives in a complex matrix environment, with strategic networking and cross-functional management skillsStrong decision-making, problem-solving and analytical skills, with ability to innovate with practical solutions for complex issuesAbility to work independently while escalating risks and issues as appropriateStrong interpersonal verbal and written communications and presentation capabilitiesCertified Lean Practitioner or Certified Six Sigma Black Belt is preferred
