About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Content Editor to join our dynamic team in the educational publishing industry. In this pivotal role, you will play a key part in shaping and maintaining the quality and strategic direction of our content. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage editorial tasks, provide guidance to editors and writers, and contribute to the development and implementation of our content strategy.
Contract Type: Independent Contractor Agreement - FreelanceReporting Manager: Publishing General Manager.Working Hours: 8 hours per day.Working Days: Monday-Friday ( Sat-Sun off )Agreement Period: 1 year. might be extendable according to the available projects.Start Date: ASAPSalary: 6160$ Monthly. (No benefits for this role except national holidays Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day are paid)
Your Responsibilities
Content Strategy and Direction:Provide expert input on content direction and strategy.Collaborate with the Content Manager to align content strategy with writer and editor assignments, ensuring successful implementation.Partner with the Content Manager to ensure all content aligns with strategic goals.Editorial Management:Oversee and work closely with writers and editors to guarantee content quality, accuracy, and adherence to style guidelines.Manage task delegation to editors and writers, ensuring timely content delivery.Assign tasks within project scopes, balancing workloads and effectively managing deadlines.Coordinate with the Content Manager and Project Manager to align task distribution with content strategy.Identify resource gaps and participate in recruiting efforts as needed by the Publishing Manager.Onboard and train new editorial team members.Content Development and Editing:Write, edit, and proofread various content types, ensuring high-quality, error-free, and engaging materials.Review content for clarity, coherence, grammar, style, and adherence to brand guidelines.Develop and maintain editing checklists and style guides for editorial consistency.Quality Assurance and Collaboration:Ensure content quality by resolving editor comments and adhering to high editorial standards.Collaborate with the Content Manager to address content development concerns and queries, fostering a cohesive approach.Training and Mentorship:Facilitate training on program components, editorial reviews, and editor expectations.Provide guidance and mentorship to junior editors and writers for skill development.Collaborate with the Content Manager on training initiatives.Planning Document Oversight:Lead the development and maintain the accuracy of planning documents, such as scope and sequence, curriculum maps, major and minor mapping.Ensure planning documents align with content strategy, company goals, and educational standards.Collaborate with the Content Manager on the creation and maintenance of all planning documents.Communication and Collaboration:Conduct regular meetings with writers and editors to discuss projects, provide feedback, and address concerns.Participate in meetings with publishing leads to coordinate efforts and ensure alignment with broader goals.Provide feedback to the General Manager and Head of Department regarding manuscript development, issues, and queries.Scheduling and Workflow Management:Create schedules to manage content and writer work, ensuring deadlines are met.Collaborate with the Senior Editor to develop efficient workflows for timely task completion.Alignment with Standards and Sensitivity Guides:Ensure content adheres to all educational standards.Uphold company sensitivity guides, guaranteeing all content meets ethical and cultural considerations.
What We're Looking For:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as English, Education, or a related discipline.Minimum of 5 years of experience in educational publishing, ideally in a similar Senior Content Editor role.Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.Leadership experience in managing and mentoring editorial teams.Proficiency in Adobe Pro and Smartsheet.Excellent time management and organizational skills.Ability to work independently and under pressure while meeting tight deadlines.
