Powder Technician

Job Title: Technician, Powder and Coating

Job Summary: Alsym Energy is looking for a self-driven and motivated technician with a passion in the field of energy storage. In this position, the candidate will have an opportunity to drive rapid and innovative advancements in materials and processes for next-generation energy storage systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for active R&D efforts and will work closely with a team of engineers and scientists to deliver products with demanding performance requirements.

Industry Background: Energy storage systems is a rapidly emerging field. Over the last few years, supply-chain constraints and significant safety incidents arising from lithium-ion batteries globally have resulted in a dramatic increase in costs and reduced confidence in the reliability of the technology. Alsym is working on an exciting proprietary aqueous battery technology that is expected to compete with state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries while offering the technology at a fraction of the cost and with inherent non-flammability.

Key Qualifications:Experience working in a lab or research setting, clean room and/or dry room experience is a plusExperience with handling chemicals is highly desirable (>1 gallon)Experienced with hand application of coatings and films onto a substrate Familiarity with pilot scale slurry mixing or slot die coating is a plusExperience in the battery field is a plus but not requiredMust be a hands-on and self-motivated individualMust have excellent interpersonal communication skills and an exemplary team playerExcellent attention to detail and ability to work independently under clear instructions Ability to operate basic electric machinery and power tools (drills, bandsaw etc.)Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and rest of Microsoft Office suiteMust be able to lift 40lbs

Roles & Responsibilities:Set up, adjust, and maintain basic pilot equipment (mixers, reactors, probes)Perform powder production tasks on weekly basis (running wet chemistry reactions)Schedule and perform small format coatings using doctor blade several times per weekFollow and contribute to standard operating procedures for mixing and coatingMaintain mixing and coating space to an acceptable level of cleanliness and organizationAssist scientists and other team members in R&D mix and coat activitiesAssist other team members in other aspects of the cell building process (cell building, small format coatings etc.)
