Located in Los Angeles’ historic West Adams neighborhood, Alta Adams is an inclusive, community-oriented restaurant serving comforting food and great cocktails that bring people together. Helmed by 2x James Beard Nominee Chef Keith Corbin and Michelin-starred Chef Daniel Patterson, Alta has become famous in the Los Angeles restaurant community for its distinct interpretation of soul food that draws the connection between traditional West African food and California cuisine.

Chefs Keith and Daniel first met during the opening of LocoL – a new kind of fast food restaurant in the Watts neighborhood of L.A., built on the idea that everyone deserves good food, a good job, and an opportunity to fulfill their potential. After working together for several years at both LocoL and several Alta Group restaurants in the Bay Area, Chef Keith returned to Los Angeles to introduce his reimagined traditional Southern cuisine to the community with Alta Adams.

Nestled on a charming neighborhood street, the restaurant features four stunning event spaces including a vine-draped patio, parklet, indoor art room, and the wine shop next door. The menu pays homage to Chef Keith’s roots – fusing the Southern flavors and dishes he grew up eating and preparing alongside his grandmother with an elevated, ingredient-driven approach that highlights the local bounty of Southern California.

Alta Adams is seeking an experienced and proactive Events Director to helm and grow their events program. The ideal candidate is highly self-motivated with a strong Los Angeles community rolodex, who can foster and promote a positive culture and energy within the team. A strong network of connections is extremely important to this role in order to grow the restaurant’s already successful events program. Additional responsibilities include creating proficient systems, customizing menus with seasonal updates, and targeting new business by proactively fostering new relationships with potential clients.

Someone who is both tech and computer savvy is also ideal, as this role will be tasked with updating the restaurant’s website, event collateral, and assisting with marketing & social media as it pertains to events. The team uses InDesign for menu creation, so any experience with this or similar desktop publishing software is a huge plus.

The Events Director will, at minimum, need to be on-site to greet clients and ensure a smooth setup for each event – however candidates should have the ability to assess when their presence is needed to ensure a flawless event experience for the client and guests. Once established in the role, the team is open to the Events Director working a hybrid schedule so long as they continually driving new business and managing their schedule according to business needs.

Events Director Responsibilities

Responsible for selling all private functions, including meeting with clients to determine needs, meeting those needs, and exceeding their expectations through detailed communicationNetworking inside and outside the restaurant group to proactively obtain leads and build relationships with new and existing clientsWork with the Executive Chef and General Manager to establish profitable and competitive private event menus that meet clients’ needsDevelop long-term operational strategiesCreate, update and print event materials to include menus, place cards, directional signs, and other materials as requestedDraft banquet event orders and execute floorplans as requested for each eventResponsible for overseeing events staffAttend events and other off-site functions as neededParticipate in regular departmental progress meetingsRespond promptly to inquiries from clients and prospective membersMaintain communication with the client customer throughout the event process (pre-event, event, post-event)Participates in client site inspections

Candidate Requirements

3+ years’ experience as a Catering and/or Private Events Director or 5+ years’ experience as a Catering/Events Manager within a full service, high-volume, upscale or fine dining establishmentSolid understanding of event revenue generationStrong rolodex of connections within the Los Angeles communityProven track record of sales performance along with marketing/prospecting programs that drive event revenueProven ability in leadership, communication, and negotiating skillsAbility to create and foster a culture of positivity and good energyCreative menu development skillsProactive and highly self-motivated with the ability to network to generate new businessHigh energy and outgoing personalityOrganizational skills and high attention to detailMust be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Word, and ExcelInDesign or comparable computer publishing software experience a plusDiplomatic team player able to foster relationships with FOH and BOH team, clientele, and vendorsKnowledge of basic safety, health and sanitation standardsFlexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays

Compensation Package Includes

Base Salary in the $80-100k range DOE + Monthly CommissionMedical Benefits StipendPTO Plan
