The Oncology Nurse provides unbiased, customer centric, tailored information that empowers people with cancer and caregivers to better manage the impact of a cancer diagnosis. Support is provided throughout the cancer continuum from diagnosis to survivorship or end of life. The ON performs literature reviews utilizing various science-based education platforms to assist in responding to medically complex customer requests which come through the National Cancer Information Center via multiple communication channels including inbound calls, Video Chat requests, and customer experience department escalations. The ONIS critically evaluate medical and nursing literature to assess reliability and relevance to ensure the most useful information is communicated to a constituent. The ON works with Cancer Information and Operations leaders to build and provide new-hire training, ongoing continuing education and mentoring of Cancer Information / Spanish Support staff. Answers all escalated / complex inquiries while adhering to ACS established call handling quality and productivity standards. Demonstrates excellent communication skills by actively listening to callersβ needs and sharing information health literacy best practices. Takes ownership of providing relevant answers ensuring total caller satisfactionCaptures relevant information into ACSβ Salesforce database, including retrieving or updating the caller's record as appropriate. Assists with the development and delivery of new-hire cancer content for Cancer Information Specialists, as needed. Work includes collaboration with NCIC Operations team members overseeing center-wide training strategy. Provides updated medical / nursing continuing education to other NCIC staff, as needed. Develops and delivers training presentations for small audiences within the ACS organization, as needed. Provides internal, quality monitoring assistance to strengthen information delivery, as needed. Researches and offers recommendations for process improvements. Demonstrates the ability to work in a team environment with other oncology nurses; writers; and medical professionals. Maintains knowledge of work environment while staying apprised of ACS organization and program changes. Works with ACS / NCIC leaders to maintain required nursing credentials. Works with ACS Volunteers, as requested, to enhance their cancer education knowledge and / or collaborate on escalated cancer support needs. Reports technology problems to the appropriately outlined channel, as needed. Reliably adheres to outlined scheduled and can work a flexible schedule in line with business needs. Manages multiple tasks and systems while continuing to meet ACS performance standards. Ability to work toward common goals as part of a team. Adapts quickly to new techniques and work method. Motivated to help others. Always maintains professional approach and demeanor with callers. Demonstrates tact; courtesy; and empathy in all constituent interactions. Exhibits positive energy/enthusiasm. Abides by ACS policies; procedures; and security requirements.
FORMAL KNOWLEDGE
Current unencumbered RN licensureMinimum of 5 years clinical oncology nursing experience, required. BSN preferred, or equivalent oncology nursing experience. Demonstrates advanced oncology clinical competence beyond that acquired in a basic nursing program. Oncology Certification/ Pediatric Oncology Certification, preferred.
COMPETENCIES / SKILLS
Adept in searching electronic medical data bases for information. Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint & Excel). Articulates ideas and information verbally and tailors, message to the intended audience. Strong customer experience focus including ability to de-escalate and communicate effectively in crisis situations. Must be a highly motivated self-starter with initiative and follow-through, with the ability to thinkstrategically, work in an extremely fast paced team environment, and manage multiple tasks / projects simultaneously with attention to detail. Demonstrates ability to meet Patient Pillar and / or Enterprise business standards. Focuses on department and virtual center culture, a sense of community, and morale. Demonstrates ACS core values, cultural beliefs, and delivers on customer promises.
SPECIALIZED TRAINING OR KNOWLEDGE
Work from home experience, desirable. Experience communicating via electronic means, preferred (Microsoft Teams, Screen Meet, Zoom)Experience working / teaching in a virtual education platform, preferred (Adobe Connect, Microsoft Teams, Google, Zoom)
The starting rate is $61,500. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
