Senior Catastrophe Modeling Analyst

AmericanAg™, a global provider of diversified reinsurance services, is looking for a Senior Catastrophe Modeling Analyst to work out of our office in Schaumburg, Illinois. This is a hybrid position working in the office three days a week. Some travel will be needed.

As part of the Actuarial team at AmericanAg™, the Catastrophe Modeling team works directly with many members of the internal department and Farm Bureau clients to understand catastrophe risk and its impact across the (re)insurance value chain. This includes developing and executing projects that assists our stakeholders in understanding what events are possible, what future events are likely to occur and their frequency, along with how severe these events might be.

Reporting to the Catastrophe Modeling Manager, the Senior Catastrophe Modeling Analyst will perform a full range of catastrophe modeling activities for the Farm Bureau® companies, including potential supervision of assigned team members. This individual will also play a critical role in reviewing and completing all aspects of catastrophe modeling to ensure accuracy and timeliness in delivery to both internal and external stakeholders.

Specifically, The Senior Catastrophe Modeling Analyst Is Responsible For

Independently reviewing and completing all aspects of catastrophe modeling: scrubbing data, data reconciliation, running catastrophe models, completing ad-hoc analyses, peer review of modeling results, and interpreting and presenting results to Farm Bureau® clientsPotentially supervising one or more analysts on the Cat Modeling teamAssisting with managing the communication, timeline, workload distribution, and completion of Verisk (AIR Worldwide) and RMS catastrophe modeling for reinsurance submissionsResponding directly to internal and external questions about data preparation, models, modeled results, and current catastrophe eventsHeavily contributing to modeling aspects and reviewing of corporate roll-upAttending catastrophe modeling conferences to interact directly with vendors and understand recent events and upcoming model changesCommunicating model changes and updates to internal and external stakeholdersTraveling and attending Farm Bureau® conferences to communicate relevant model changes to the Farm Bureau® companiesPossibly presenting at conferences regarding topics related to catastrophe modelingOther duties as assigned

What Is Needed For This Role

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experienceFive or more years modeling experience with RMS RiskLink/RiskModeler and Verisk Touchstone models for various use cases, including portfolio analytics, ratemaking, allocation, model change management, or marginal impact projectsExtensive experience working with primary insurance datasetsStrong MS Office Suite skills, particularly Excel and Microsoft SQL. Must be able to write SQL fluentlyKnowledge of insurance, insurance coverage, and insurance contracts (ARe, CPCU credentials a plus)Working understanding of reinsurance and reinsurance contractsStrong communication and relationship-building skills through direct client interactionOrganizational skills and the ability to work independently, lead, and manage

The expected starting salary range for this position is between $110,000 and $125,000. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position is also eligible for an annual productivity bonus.
