Title: Senior AccountantDuration: 6+ Months (W2 contract) Location: WFH but occasional onsite meetings (Portland, OR area / SW Washington candidates only)

General Statement of Duties This position performs senior level accounting functions for the organization. Primary responsibilities include general ledger maintenance, analysis and reporting.This position is also responsible for internal and external relations, auditing, and general administration.

Essential Position Functions

General Ledger Maintenance & AnalysisPrepare routine to complex general ledger journal entries and calculate large estimates; assist in reviewing routine journal entries performed by others.Prepare monthly account reconciliations for complex accounts; maintain appropriate GL support.Review and analyze data to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance; make or coordinate corrections as needed.Prepare advanced trend and data analysis Interact with accounts payable staff on AP and cash receipts activities, including reviewing and coding invoices.

ReportingPrepare monthly financial reporting packages.Prepare external financial reporting, including regulatory filings; respond to regulatory inquiries.Develop reports for ad-hoc requests using excel or GL software; run routine reports.Maintain and create financial reports in reporting software.Participate in presenting financial statements at Finance Committee and Board meetings with outside entities.Support year-end audit request and assist in audited financial statement preparation.Prepare financial reports and statements as required by various regulatory agencies, including the Oregon Health Authority, the Oregon Insurance Division, CMS and the IRS.Prepare annual tax filings including form 990, form 990T and CT-12Assist with any other regulatory agency audit as needed to provide the information requested.

Internal & External RelationsDevelop and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments, teams, and leaders and external entities Serve as an advanced resource for finance staff.May participate in regularly-scheduled and ad-hoc meetings/webcasts with/by internal and external business owners (CCOs, Medicare, Mental Health, NEMT etc.) and regulators to ensure accurate and complete financial reporting and knowledge sharing.

AdministrationParticipate in 1:1, team, and department meetings; attend All Staff meetings.Track and document allocation of time.Identify and help implement process improvements with minimal supervision.

Essential Department and Organizational FunctionsPropose and implement process improvements.Meet deadlines for completion of workload.Maintain agreed upon work schedule.Demonstrate cooperation and teamwork.Provide cross-training on specific job responsibilities.Meet identified business goals that contribute to departmental goals.Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

TechnicalMastery of one or more core organizational accounting functions (e.g., IBNR, Medicare estimates, Risk Corridors, Financial Reporting, Regulatory Reporting, Tax Reporting, Audit, Reporting software)Proficient understanding of GAAP and applicable laws and regulations; ability to recommend appropriate accounting and reporting treatment for transactionsProficient understanding of internal controls and department policies and proceduresAbility to interpret data; strong research and analytical skillsIntermediate Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., advanced formulas, sumifs, vlookups, pivots, appropriate application of formulas and graphs, etc.)

Education and/or ExperienceRequired:Minimum 5 years’ experience as an Accountant (3-4 years’ Accountant experience may be considered with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and with core experience from public accounting or financial reporting)Preferred:experience in health insuranceexperience in public accounting or financial reporting (tax and/or regulatory)Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCPA licensePre-Employment RequirementAll employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of our pre-employment screening that may include drug testing, background/criminal check, and if applicable, must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
