SCIENTIST II – TRANSLATIONAL PHARMACOLOGY

JOB SUMMARY

This position in Translational Pharmacology includes biomarkers, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity. This role may focus on one or more of these areas while supporting and learning more about the others. This includes participating in planning the research, assay development, sample testing and data analysis for preclinical and clinical projects investigating novel, bispecific immunotherapy molecules in oncology. This position will design and conduct technically complex experiments in addition to identifying and introducing relevant emerging concepts in the field and more broadly, related fields. This involves performing advanced, experimental troubleshooting and methods development. This requires communicating theory, practice, and ideas for innovation to colleagues: written and oral, including leading scientific discussions. This role impacts the work of teams and project(s), including external collaborations. RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with research groups across multiple functions, including Protein Engineering, Immunobiology and Bioanalytical to support preclinical research programs.Support Clinical programs with method development, reagent management, sample testing and data analysis.Provide theoretical knowledge and practical experience in oncology, immunology, and pharmacology.After receiving general guidance on new assignments, work independently to research and plan work.Independently seek improvement of work practices and develop existing methods and protocols.Be able to lead the technical portion of projects, which may include identifying challenges and exploring solutions, including reviews of scientific literature. Write and review technical documents. Deliver new ideas that have an impact on Aptevo’s scientific objectives.Acquire new theoretical knowledge and techniques as needed to meet company goals and project milestones. Demonstrate technical skills and creativity. Independently design, execute, analyze, and interpret complex experiments with solid scientific judgement, and communicate relevant data. Contribute technical information for reports, publications, and presentations, as needed. Assist with clinical sample receipt, storage, and analysis according to study protocols and test methods with a high level of precision and documentation. Draft presentations of data for review.Translate complex ideas clearly outside of the team to general audiences and present confidently.May supervise the day-to-day work of more junior (and/or new) team members and contribute to the professional development of others; may mentor associate scientists on job duties and general departmental operations.Work closely with manager and other colleagues on how to deliver results and build Aptevo's scientific capabilities.Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS Requires PhD or equivalent and 2+ years’ experience; or MS/MA and 10+ years of experience, or BS/BA and 12+ years of experience.Experience with biomarker discovery and development is preferred.Knowledge and experience in immunology, oncology, molecular and cellular biology are preferred.Ability to plan and balance multiple experiments and projects, and work independently.Ability to analyze results and perform independent experimentation related to Translational Pharmacology (PK, biomarkers, immunogenicity).Experience with methods to determine titer and binding characteristics of molecules, and support development of assays, such as PK and immunogenicity.Experience evaluating experimental results and exercising analytical thought and scientific judgment to solve problems.Strong ability to communicate experimental procedures and results through a variety of group, project, or department team meetings, as well as in report format. Excellent organizational skills, including accurate, detailed records.Excellent data analysis skills, including familiarity with software such as GraphPad Prism and JMP.Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices is a plus.Experience with clinical sample management, including reconciliation and communication with CROs and clinical sites is a plus.Familiarity with non-clinical safety (toxicology) study planning and data review is a plus.Proficient use of MS/office and other standard computer programs is necessary.Equivalent education/experience may substitute for stated requirements. SALARY RANGE: $107,564 - 150,074
