Job Summary:The Certification Special Agent Performs complex regulatory investigations of individuals, vendors, and event wagering fantasy sports licensure seeking State Certification. The Special Agent utilizes various reports including (but not limited to) DPS and FBI information, Accurint and Credit reports to conduct investigations. Conduct research and interviews to confirm applicants are in good standing for State Certification.Acts as liaison with the Tribal Gaming Office. Creates reports to adequately document investigative findings for the issuance, denial, revocation or suspension of an applicant's State certification, Tribal Gaming Recommendation and/or State licensure. Maintains yearly AZPOST credentials including firearms and continuing hours training.This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.The State of Arizona strives for a work culture that affords employees flexibility, autonomy, and trust. Job Duties:Investigates individuals and vendors applying for state certification, state recommendation and state licensure. Interviews applicants.Conduct background checks that include examination of DPS and FBI criminal history record information, information from other law enforcement agencies, Accurint and Credit reports. Research and review public records and outside expert reports.Act as liaison exchanging information, investigations from other agencies and Tribal Gaming Offices. Prepare work papers and exhibits. Write reports, confer with management & the Attorney General's Office. Testify at Hearings and courts of law.Initiates investigations of suspected violations of the Gaming Compacts, Event Wagering and Fantasy Sports rules, and/or state, tribal and federal laws.Responsible for completing detailed supplemental reports and other documentation necessary and appropriate to support the Suspension, Revocation, or Denial process relevant to state certification, state recommendation or state licensure, provide testimony at Administrative Hearings regarding appeal-able agency actions.Prepares cases for legal action. Secures evidence and documentation, prepares petitions or other relevant documents for use in administrative, civil or criminal hearings.
Selective Preference(s):Minimum 2 years’ experience in background investigations, interview and interrogation techniques, drafting and executing search warrants, drafting affidavits and testifying in various courts of law, criminal and administrative.For the Sworn (Full Authority Law Enforcement Officer) position. Only current or former sworn police officer applicants, will be considered. The Department of Gaming will not sponsor any applicant in a police academy. Applicants must be a certified Arizona peace officer by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST) in good standing or be eligible to obtain Arizona peace officer certification via the AZPOST waiver process within 6 months of hire date (AZPOST Waiver Process). To be eligible, a person must have previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona or another state; must have completed basic and advanced training that demonstrates substantial comparability to the Arizona basic course; and must meet all of the minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.
Pre-Employment Requirements:Candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal history investigation. Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12) Must pass a polygraph examination (Full Authority Law Enforcement Officer position requirement only). Must pass a polygraph examination.
