Director of Finance

The Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts (ASMSA), a campus of the Universityof Arkansas System, invites applications from highly qualified candidates for a twelve-month, full-timeopening as Director of Finance beginning no later than July 1, 2024.

In brief, ASMSA is tasked with providing extraordinary opportunities for a diverse group of students.Established by the General Assembly in 1991 as a public, residential high school to serve talentedand motivated Arkansas students from throughout the state as a school of choice, ASMSA—locatedin historic downtown Hot Springs and adjacent to Hot Springs National Park—is one of only 17 publicresidential high schools in the United States specializing in the education of students with an interestin advanced careers in math and science as well as a passion for and creativity within studio,performing, language, and digital arts. ASMSA offers more than 70 courses for college credit, and allstudents earn an average of 50 hours of college credit while finishing high school. Recent graduatesachieved an average ACT composite score of 30. Newsweek, The Daily Beast, and the WashingtonPost have ranked ASMSA among the nation’s “Top 25” high schools. Niche.com has named ASMSAas Arkansas’s top public high school as well as among the “Top 50” nationally.

The Director of Finance has the overall responsibility for all fiscal processes for the institutionincluding, but not limited to, accounts payable, purchasing, travel, cash management, banking,grants, capital projects, annual budgets, financial reports, and annual audits. Due to the sizeand nature of ASMSA, the director will be actively involved in day-to-day transactional work asa member of the Finance team.

The director also serves as campus administrator for the maintenance and janitorialdepartments, working with unit managers to ensure continuous campus operations andcampus planning for future projects.

As a member of the campus leadership team, the successful candidate will play a critical role inworking with campus stakeholders on financial matters and should have experience in organizationalbudgeting, capital project development, and strategic planning. The Director of Finance should alsopossess strong communication and interpersonal skills, supervisory and project management skills,the ability to analyze and problem-solve financial information, advanced knowledge of computersoftware systems, organizational and time management skills to coordinate multiple projects, tasksand deadlines, and a clear commitment to the support of colleagues throughout campus.

A Master’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field, a minimum of five yearsexperience in related areas, and at least two years experience in a supervisory role isrequired. Experience with Workday, higher education and state finance rules and regulations,and CPA certification is preferred.
