Atlas is seeking a Utility Locator for our San Diego, California office. Come join us!

The Utility Locator will be responsible for conducting SUE (Subsurface Utility Engineering) fieldwork. They will ensure the accuracy of fieldwork based on Atlas SOP (Standard Operating Procedure), be able to operate (collect data if necessary) and perform basic maintenance of the various designating types of equipment and field vehicles, make proper field notes and sketches, adhere to all applicable safety procedures and other duties as necessary to complete complex SUE projects.

Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:Read and interpret plans: utility records, as-builts and survey drawings.Exercise professional communication both verbally and written to coordinate with clients and government entities.Locate underground utilities including water, gas, telephone, CATV and powerOperate Atlas standard utility locating equipment: GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar), Schonstedt, Metrotech, Pipehorn, RD, Vivax Pro, etc. to delineate existing utilities.Detail-oriented and document all procedures and results.Meet specified schedules and budgets.

Minimum Requirements:High School Diploma or GEDA minimum of 3 years of utility locating experienceAbility to work independently on assigned tasksValid California driver’s license with a clean driving recordSome OT, weekend work & travel may be requiredKnowledge of Word & ExcelGood communication skills and able to work well with team (team player)Commitment to detail and quality of workPhysically able to work outdoors under all conditionsAbility to handle multiple tasks within the same day

Technical Requirements:Knowledge of various software including but not limited to Microsoft Office and AutoCad programs is a plusAbility to read and interpret plans, utility records, as-builts, and survey drawings is a plusAbility to learn and use new equipment and collect useful data

Other Miscellaneous Qualities:Must have a valid drivers licenseMust be able to pass a background check for clearance to work on US Department of Defense military bases and drug screeningWillingness to participate in a Random Drug Testing Program in compliance with Los Angeles refineries rules & regulationsMust be able to carry at least 50 lbs

Compensation:$20 - $30 Hourly depending on experienceThe expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state’s law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
