📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
Our client is currently seeking an experienced attorney to focus its practice area on labor & employment matters. The ideal candidate should have litigation skills, a track record of positive client relationships, a history of making court appearances, and experience taking and defending depositions.
Attorney will:• Advise clients on day-to-day labor and employment matters including, but not limited to, wage and hour issues, employee discipline and separations, record keeping, workplace investigations, anti-harassment compliance and trainings, and compliance with state and federal laws.• Prepare customized employee handbooks, employment agreements, and other materials related to labor and employment matters.• Handle all aspects of civil litigation, from inception through resolution.• Handle all aspects of administrative litigation with administrative agencies including, but not limited to, the Labor Commissioner, the Employment Development Department (EDD), and the Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (DLSE), etc.• Work directly with clients, staff, and other attorneys both within and outside of the Firm.• Must have strong verbal and written communication and research skills.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:• Must have experience in discovery.• Must have experience in law and motion work.• Responsible for management of respective client matters;• Expected to maintain regular, courteous communication with clients, ensuring they understand their legal concerns and providing them with legal counsel;• Represent clients in administrative and legal proceedings;• Preparing legal documents in a timely and accurate manner;• Ability to perform casework independently;• Ability to effectively communicate in writing and verbally;• Ability to handle a reasonable caseload;• Excellent interpersonal skills;• Strong critical thinking skills;• Adaptable and attention to detail;• Expected to work in collaboration with other attorneys and paralegals within the firm;• Monitor collections closely and participate in collecting past due amounts on Attorney’s client accounts;• Actively markets the firm through events, publications, workshops, continuing education opportunities, and effective case management. It is expected the attorney to submit one article per year for publication and perform one presentation per year.• Actively participate in the community by volunteering for or serving on governing boards of clubs, nonprofits, or associations;• Expected to maintain cell phone availability for clients and firm employees;• Expected to work with legal staff in a courteous manner; oversee their work and assist in staff performance evaluations;• Attend regular branch and/or department meetings for applicable practice areas;• Work with Branch and/or Department Managers and Partners to improve legal services, work efficiency, firm oversight, and outreach effectiveness;• Responsible for regularly entering client billing entries in the billing software daily or no later than weekly;• Responsible for reviewing pre-bills and correcting time entries within the time frames provided by the Firm Manager; Responsible for returning corrected pre-bills to Firm Manager or billing clerk within the time period requested;• Maintains State Bar licensing and completes the required CLE training credits;• Stay informed on developments in labor and employment law.
Licenses: Active CA State Bar license.Work Experience: At least two to five years of previous experience in a position of comparable responsibility. Experience in litigation, employment, and/or labor law preferred.Computer Skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, internet software, and database software. Experience in NetDocuments and Centerbase preferred but not required. Training is provided.
