Field Biologist

Bancroft Construction Services is an environmental compliance company specializing in biological and cultural monitoring, stormwater management/SWPPP, BMP installation and maintenance. We are located in San Diego, CA but our coverage area includes Central & Southern California. Bancroft Construction Services is hiring qualified field biologists for part-time, full-time, and on-call positions for ongoing contracts. Please note that you must reside in Central or Southern California preferably in the Greater Los Angeles, Bakersfield, or Tehachapi areas.

We are seeking candidates with at least two years of field experience, including at least one year of nesting bird survey experience. Experience with wetland delineations and waters monitoring a definite plus.

Comfortable with conducting surveys, monitoring construction, and vegetation management crews independently.

Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in providing environmental regulatory compliance for clients at a variety of work locations through surveys for listed species, crew compliance monitoring, and written forms of compliance activities. Serve as a liaison between project management and crews to facilitate compliance with environmental mitigation measures and permit conditions.Conduct surveys for, and potentially handle/relocate federally and/or state-listed threatened or endangered species, or other special-status species.Conduct focused and general preconstruction surveys in a variety of habitats. Assist Biology Department with duties as assigned, including project and operational tasks. When applicable, supervise and train entry-level field biologists. Work schedule may include 10-12-hour workdays depending on project needs.

Requirements and Qualifications: Minimum B.A. or B.S. in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or another related field with at least one year of experience in the field completing species surveys and/or at least one year of construction monitoring. Candidates with the equivalent in knowledge and experience may also be considered.Preference will be given to those who have experience with one or more of these species: California Gnatcatcher, Least Bell’s Vireo, San Joaquin Kit Fox, California Red-Legged Frog, Swainson's Hawk, Western Joshua Tree, Rare plant or botany experience, and Desert Tortoise. Familiarity with federal and state regulations governing management of natural resources of California.General knowledge and experience conducting nesting bird surveys, general wildlife pre-construction surveys, and identifying plants and wildlife of California. Comfortable working in physically challenging outdoor situations and conditions with expectation of traveling on a regular basis to project sites, which sometimes require overnight stays, Detail-oriented, resourceful, with strong time management skills. Ability to interact positively with project manager, field supervisor, and other co-workers. Candidate must hold a valid driver’s license with no major traffic violations. Flexibility to work early morning hours and occasional nights and weekends, as needed.

Compensation:A competitive benefits package is offered to employees working at least 30 hours per week and includes health, dental, and vision insurance and a fully vested 401K.Pay $30-$45/hour. Pay is project-specific and commensurate with skills and experience. Training opportunities for those who wish to gain experience surveying protected species.
