Settlements Specialist

Kaplan Trucking, in business since 1934 and specializing in steel hauling, is looking for a career-minded professional for a full-time, on-site Settlements Specialist role in our Cleveland, Ohio office.

In this role and as part of our Settlements team, you will support an assigned group of truck drivers and terminals as you perform accounts payable tasks related to their settlements (pay) to ensure they are paid accurately and on time.

Our ideal candidate is comfortable working with numbers/percentages/rates in a deadline-driven environment, has a knack for problem-solving/analyzing information, isn’t afraid to ask questions, and can work closely with their team members to provide exceptional customer service.

We will provide all necessary training for you to be successful in this role.

Responsibilities of the PositionPerforming accounts payable/invoicing functionsCorresponding with drivers, terminals, and internal staff about settlements, deductions, reimbursements, billing discrepancies, and related transactions Collecting and organizing load paperwork, including Bills of Lading and delivery receiptsMonitor, sort, and prioritize group email and phone correspondence to ensure issues and questions are resolved in a timely and complete mannerInvestigating discrepancies to resolve any issues Data entry

Qualifications & Interpersonal SkillsTransportation/trucking industry knowledge preferred but not requiredAbility to work with numbers and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail in doing soAptitude for learning and navigating a variety of computer programs, apps, and websites to process physical and electronic paperworkProficient use of Microsoft Office – Outlook, Excel, and WordStrong communication and follow-up skills – the ability to recognize and appropriately respond to tone in phone and email correspondence, as well as a willingness to make clarifying phone calls when email won’t sufficeAbility to interact with a variety of people, including truck drivers, terminals, brokers, co-workers, and internal departmentsProactive in managing deadlines and daily responsibilitiesInterest in learning about our industry, as well as our business and other internal departments, so you can apply that knowledge to further excel in your day-to-day rolePositive, team-oriented attitude
