📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
The Role: BigHat Biosciences is seeking an exceptional, people-focused Protein Sciences leader to scale BigHat’s Protein Sciences team, capabilities, and impact. This role will grow a talented team of protein scientists and set an ambitious technical roadmap in the mission of advancing BigHat’s state-of-the-art antibody engineering platform and therapeutic pipeline.
Key ResponsibilitiesSetting and executing a vision for how Protein Sciences can advance BigHat’s platform and therapeutic pipeline including developing a roadmap for the full suite of protein sciences activities, including protein production, purification and characterization capabilities that broadly serve the Science and Development organizationsDeeply understanding the needs of Platform and Programs teams in order to architect and prioritize Protein Sciences activities company-wideGrowing a high performance team emphasizing individual development of talented scientists and supporting company-wide cross-functional interactionsEnsure programs needs are met for producing, purifying and characterizing antibodies from screening through candidate declarationDrive continuous process improvements to enable higher throughput, yield, purity, quality of protein products and to improve efficiency and data-richness of related lab processesCollaborate closely with Engineering, Product, Data Science and Automation team members to ensure BigHat’s technical ecosystem fully supports Protein Sciences needsCollaborate closely with BigHat executives, AI/ML, and other team members to ensure a tight linkage between the experimental and machine learning platform components.Collaborate closely with Translational Research and Development teams to ensure clinical candidates are robustly characterized and meet high standards of developability
Skills Knowledge and ExpertiseYou have a stellar track record at top-tier institutions or companies; a strong scientific background (Ph.D.) and publication record; 10+ years of pharma/biotech industry experience in protein biochemistry including protein expression, purification, and assessment of protein biophysical properties; demonstrated hands-on experience in the discovery and development of next-generation biologics; excellent communication skills; experienced at building and leading high-performance scientific teams, experience working with computational and software teams, thrive in a fast-paced environment helping to launch, operate and grow a high-potential startup.
