This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. Our MK2 Crew Lander mission will demonstrate the lander’s core capabilities – including the privately funded BE-7 landing engine, precision landing sensors, and integrated power and propulsion architecture – as a precursor to certifying the vehicle for use by NASA as part of the Artemis lunar exploration program. The team building this vehicle is rethinking how space systems are designed, with a high-performance architecture, efficient reusability, and rapid design iteration. As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will work to design, analyze, build, test, integrate, deliver, and operate fluids and propulsion subsystems on Lunar landers.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

Generate and run structural analysis models and provide design feedbackProvide expert guidance on structural design and quantify performance over a variety of environmentsOptimizing structural design of fluid system valves for mass, stiffness, leakage, reliabilityTechnical leadership of a small team working structural analysisSupport complete life cycle of the valves from definition, interfaces, conceptual design, detailed design, component development, assembly, verification, and operation Work closely with designers to improve designs to deliver better than current state of the art performance

Qualifications

B.S. degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related field10+ years of experience in structural analysis and mechanical component designProficient in the use of FEA analysis tools (ANSYS preferred) and the validation of structural analysis modelsExperience with classical hand calculations for stress analysis based on common aerospace reference materials (Shigley, Bruhn, Roark etc.)Experience with a wide variety of manufacturing methods, material selection, testing, characterization & allowable developmentExperience analyzing components in high vibration environmentsAbility to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of collaboration and inclusionMust be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $125,480-$175,672
