📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
OVERVIEW: Bruker OST manufactures highly specialized, engineered superconducting materials as a Tier 1 supplier to the healthcare industry. We are also the leading supplier of advanced low temperature superconductors for high energy physics and fusion energy research projects.FUNCTION: The Technology Manager will apply knowledge and expertise towards product and supplier development, testing, and improvement projects, as well as assist and/or lead troubleshooting and root cause and corrective action activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Develop and maintain proficiency with the processes and technical details necessary for successful superconducting wire design and manufacturing, including materials performance, extrusion, drawing, heat treatment, metallographic and cryogenic testing, and failure analysis.Promote the adoption of new technologies and industry-leading trends to product line development, improvement, and management activities.Often serve as the coordinating resource between Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and/or Accounting.Maintain engineering product cost models and troubleshoot misalignment with MRP standards.Ensure communication of key process / customer issues to employees.Work with internal staff, functional leaders, and customers to meet quality, delivery, and production requirements.Work with customers and suppliers to build relationships and resolve technical issues related to the manufacturing, cost, and use of our products.· Participate and/or manage product/process improvement projects by working with manufacturing and VS team members, and other internal stake holders.· Support production by conducting training when needed, participating in trouble shooting and other related activities.· Provide customer technical support, both off-site and on-site when required.· Maintain and update professional accreditation.· Daily hands-on production troubleshooting and problem resolution.· Create and supervise execution of special instructions for reworking non-conforming material.· Develop, troubleshoot, and review maintenance of tooling, dies, and fixtures.· Provide technical support to other business functions as needed. QUALIFICATIONSPh.D. in materials science, physics, or a related discipline is required, as is experience in applied superconductivity.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Adept at working in a customer and supplier facing environment.Experience with engineering and business processes such as project planning, FMEA, process documentation, change control, and ISO management systems.Willingness to engage with coworkers at all organizational levels and be willing and able to work “hands on” from time to time and as necessary to develop deep understanding of our products and processes to help inform development, improvement, and troubleshooting activities.Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to customer, supplier, and industry event sites in the US, Europe, and Asia.Demonstrated ability to use process improvement tools, such as:o Process Mapping and measuringo Root cause analysiso Statistical process controlo Expert knowledge of SolidWorks or other solid modelling/CAD software; and drawing standardso Working knowledge of system testing methodology, DAQ Expertise in MS Office
