📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
Are you intrigued by transportation fuel markets and California’s ongoing transition to renewable energy sources? Our Division of Petroleum Market Oversight (DPMO) at California Energy Commission (CEC) is hiring a Senior Economic Analyst to serve as a subject matter expert on petroleum markets, regulation of transportation fuels, and decarbonization policy.
DPMO was created through a special legislative session in 2023 and is the first-in-the-nation government watchdog focused on transportation fuels. DPMO is housed within the California Energy Commission (CEC), the state’s primary energy policy and planning agency, which is leading the state to a 100% clean energy future.
Position DetailsConduct complex data analysis as part of DPMO’s transportation fuels market analysis utilizing statistical and data management software to query, validate, format, visualize and organize structured and unstructured data. Coordinate complex research projects with the DPMO investigation and economics staff. Develop data models and visualizations and communicate findings in memos, slide decks, and reports. Senior CEC management will rely on the Senior Economic Analyst as a prime resource person and innovator in analysis of transportation fuels and energy economics and policy.

Desirable QualificationsExcellent written and oral communication skills.Expert knowledge of research, survey, and analytical methods and techniques.Ability to develop, analyze, and interpret complex research findings.Ability to prepare and present technical reports and make recommendations.Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.Economic and econometric modeling, data analysis, research, and policy analysis.Experience with Excel, Stata, R, or other statistics software.
