Job Description And Duties

The Communications Specialist for the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) executes responsibilities for the CalOSBA Marketing Team under the general supervision of the Executive Project Manager and Marketing Manager. The incumbent plans, writes, and edits effective communications, press and outreach materials to inform the public and the media of the activities and objectives of CalOSBA; coordinates CalOSBA participation in conferences and events; and consults with and advises management on public relations efforts for CalOSBA's various programs. Typical tasks will include the writing of original electronic and hard copy articles and speeches; conducting research using the internet, social media, newspapers, magazines, and business trade journals; planning podcast and radio broadcast outlines; and writing technical/annual reports for CalOSBA. This position works independently and in conjunction with the Executive Team and Marketing and Regional Teams.

Please describe your process for accomplishing these tasks and what tools you use. Describe your experience working with local/governmental Public Information Officers, External Affairs Division(s), and news outlets who are on deadline to provide program or background information on the record. Please describe your roles and responsibilities.
