Under the general direction of the Individual Assistance (IA) Program Manager I, the Senior Emergency Services Coordinator (SESC) is responsible for performing a broad range of planning and coordination tasks, and organizing and monitoring resources, to support activity associated with implementing work program objectives assigned to the IA Program. Duties will be performed during both normal and disaster recovery operations, within the context of Cal OES, as well as part of field activities such as those associated with Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDAs), Joint Field Office (JFO) operations, and Assistance Centers.

The SESC works under strict regulatory and administrative deadlines. Supports and advises unit members’ efforts related to stakeholder outreach, hazard and working groups, and socialization efforts. Maintains a routine workload and responds to short term projects and priority assignments. Formulates policies, procedures, and makes recommendations on program related issues and advises management on potential program alternatives and impacts. The SESC must be able to logically and innovatively analyze and resolve governmental/administrative problems of a complex nature through the implementation of various tools and program applications; gathers and analyzes data to develop and evaluate alternatives for a variety of program related areas and makes recommendations to management and executive leadership on those alternatives; communicates effectively orally and in writing; and functions in an environment with demanding and changing priorities.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule which includes up to two days of remote work per week. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.

The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) is an emergency response, homeland security, and disaster recovery agency and as a result, is a dynamic and exciting place to work in a team-oriented environment. The Recovery Section is responsible for managing disaster recovery and providing assistance to local governments, special districts, certain nonprofit organizations, individuals, businesses and agricultural communities impacted by disasters. The Recovery Section ensures state and federal support are provided in an efficient and timely manner throughout the recovery process.

In the event of an emergency, employees may be contacted and requested to report to work in the event of an emergency. This contact may be outside of your normal working hours (evenings/nights, weekends, and holidays). This service may require irregular work hours, work locations other than the official duty location, and may include duties other than those specified in your official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and you may be required to relocate to emergency sites.
