The Quality Assurance and Food Science Manager will be responsible for quality systems development and management, auditing and compliance, process improvements, supplier quality management, personnel training, data analysis reporting and customer satisfaction. Reporting directly to Ownership, the position requires professional experience in food or beverage manufacturing with PCQI & SQF certifications. With our rapidly expanding product variety, the optimal candidate will assist in improving food quality and packaging of current products, as well as develop new food products for incoming clients.

Job Description

Lead the HACCP/Food Safety ProgramAbility to implement, lead and maintain SQF certification Participate in selection of best practice processes for food safety and quality systemsManage and maintain the auditing of all quality parameters within the facility including incoming supplier specifications, production, warehousing, shipping, etc.Work with Plant Manager and production staff to ensure daily operations meet government regulations and company standardsTake a proactive approach in the development and continuous improvement of plant quality performanceResponsible for reporting food safety and quality problems to human resources for corrective actions to enforce accountabilityCollaborate with HR to develop, implement and maintain employee food safety & GMP trainingProvide and make changes to quality procedures/systems as necessaryMaintain document control system with accurate, up-to-date production and sanitation proceduresAnalyze product shelf-life and chemical, physical, microbiological issues that take place in stored or processed foodsAnswers and investigates consumer complaints developing corrective and preventive actions to mitigate future complaintsInitiate and manage a comprehensive 3rd party Food Safety Certification ProgramResearch methods to improve aspects of foods, such as chemical composition, flavor, color, texture, nutritional value, and convenienceTest new products for flavor, texture, color, nutritional content, and adherence to government and industry standards

Basic Skills and Qualifications include

Current HACCP and PCQI certifications with experience in writing, implementing, and maintaining food safety plans Current SQF Practitioner certification and experience or ability to take and pass SQF certification courseBasic knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs)Must be able to prioritize tasks appropriately according to level of urgencyWilling to learn new skills and have an open mindAble to pass a post offer drug screen and background check and be 18 or olderMust possess the ability to follow written guidelines and instructionsAble to be flexible with work schedules depending on production needsDemonstrate flexibility and willingness to take on new projects as they arisePositive, team player mentalityExcellent communication skills (speaking/writing/reading)Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Food Science or related field preferredStrong work ethic and organizational skills

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
