📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
Job Description
The Phlebotomist III serves patients by identifying the best method for retrieving specimens; preparing specimens for laboratory testing; entering requests for laboratory testing in laboratory information systems. Trains and coaches staff.
Responsibilities
Approaches customers in a courteous and professional manner. Uses proper and timely communication skills (in person, telephone, and written)
Interacts professionally with patients of all ages
Prior to specimen collection, properly identifies patients by adhering to proper protocol
Handles and/or processes laboratory specimens in a safe manner
Identifies and resolves customer service issues
Carries workload independently and is constantly seeking to help team member(s) when needed
Addresses quality issues proactively
Prioritize tasks in order to accomplish assignments in a timely manner in order to meet benchmark goals
Recommends process improvement initiatives that measurably improve patient care and patient satisfaction
Accurately enters data into computer systems
Works collaboratively with other departments
Handles conflict resolution in an appropriate, timely, and consistent manner
Uses resources (e.g., time, people, supplies, etc.) cost effectively
Coaches others on improved customer service behaviors
Precept new employees and students
Observes and documents competence of phlebotomy staff, when applicable
Maintains inventory of phlebotomy supplies, when applicable
Pre-Surgery: Demonstrates the appropriate knowledge and skills in performance of ECG's and phlebotomy in an accurate and consistent manner
Pre-Surgery: Able to check in patients at the front desk, obtain orders, utilize and obtain appropriate information for patient check-in
Pre-Surgery: Operate office equipment such as fax machines, copiers, or phone systems and arrange for repairs when equipment malfunctions
Pre-Surgery: Ordering and stocking of supplies and equipment
Pre-Surgery: Compiling patient charts and proficient use of FormFast
Pre-Surgery: Ability to use the EMR to obtain and transcribe physician orders for laboratory testing
Qualifications
Required Education: High School Diploma / GED
Preferred Education: Graduate of a Phlebotomy Training Program
Required Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a Phlebotomist
Required Certifications and Licensures: Phlebotomy certification - American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Health career Association (NHA), American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT), or American Medical Technologists (AMT)
Preferred Certifications and Licensures: Basic Life Support (CPR)
