LocationDenver Parks and Recreation’s Aquatics team is currently hiring for Aquatics Coordinators for multiple pools and recreation centers throughout Denver’s recreation network. In this position you can expect to work on site at one of the multiple pools and recreation centers. The working location for this position is yet to be determined and will be discussed at time of interview.

What You’ll DoWith a staff of over 400 lifeguards across 15 indoor and 16 outdoor swimming pools, it takes a team of dedicated, diverse, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic individuals to ensure the highest-quality aquatic programs, safety, and customer service are being delivered to communities across Denver. The City and County of Denver’s Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is currently seeking multiple adept and accomplished recreation professionals to join this team as Aquatics Coordinators.

In this position, you will create, coordinate, and plan a variety of aquatic programs, classes, and activities while managing the day-to-day operations of a public recreation center natatorium. This position will play a key role in staffing and training the necessary staff required to operate a large-scale public pool in addition to developing new programs for community members. Specifically, as an Aquatics Coordinator you will:Create, implement, and lead Aquatics programs, including swimming lessons and special eventsAssist with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, and coaching of part time staff members including Lifeguards and Swim Lesson InstructorsOversee staff scheduling for Aquatics part time staffEvaluate the success of programs and provide feedback to the Aquatics Core TeamConduct regular staff training on emergency proceduresDeliver equitable, professional, and prompt customer service to community members and facility usersCreate and foster partnerships with community leaders, neighborhood organizations, local schools, and other community partners to design programs that fit their unique needs and promote employment opportunitiesAttend regular team meetings and collaborate with other Aquatics Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, and other city agenciesAttend community events and serve as a Denver Parks and Recreation ambassador to the communityPerform basic regular maintenance and repair of pool equipment in partnership with Pool Maintenance TechniciansPerform other related duties as assigned or requested

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:Experience performing lead work/supervisory duties over aquatics staffExperience scheduling and staffing pools, including knowledge of successful lifeguard recruitment strategiesExceptional interpersonal skills, including experience working with and mentoring youthExperience engaging communities in aquatics programming and implementing new programming based on community feedbackThe ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekendsExperience instructing swim lessons and other Aquatic classes, an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) and/or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certificationsCertified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications

Required Minimum QualificationsEducation requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC CertificateExperience Requirement: Three (3) years of work experience instructing in an organized aquatic program involving the monitoring of pool equipment, pool chemicals and pool operationsEducation/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirementsLicensure:Requires a Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR and AED Certifications for Professional Rescuers, and First Aid Certification at the time of applicationRequires a Lifeguard Instructor Certification, First Aid Instructor Certification, and a Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification prior to completion of the probationary periodLicensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of employment
