GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, assists the Cedar City – Iron County Economic Development Department with clerical duties, public relations, community promotions, marketing materials, program implementation, hosting and sponsoring events, and economic development efforts in Cedar City and Iron County.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to Director of Iron County/Cedar City Economic Development.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

  • Acts as receptionist by screening calls, greeting visitors, referring inquiries as appropriate and promptly responding to information requests.
  • Assists with business recruiting efforts on behalf of Cedar City – Iron County Economic Development. The assistant will help find solutions and address questions that prospective and current businesses may experience in Cedar City and Iron County.
  • Produces materials for presentations and proposals (including printed and digital materials) from Cedar City – Iron County Economic Development to various constituencies. Participates when necessary and appropriate in the actual delivery of such presentations.
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of events that draw visitors to our community, specifically to boost lodging, dining and hospitality businesses in Cedar City and Iron County.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the Department website and assists in coordinating social media content.
  • Assists in the development of marketing strategies and materials to be used specifically by the Economic Development Department for business recruitment and events.
  • Gathers national, state and local data on a regular basis, used to accurately profile the economic conditions and climate of the Cedar City – Iron County area.
  • Manages the city’s downtown banner and I-15 billboard program.
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of programs and events that benefit the business climate and the community’s character.
  • Serves as recorder at regular meetings of the Cedar City Historic Downtown Economic Committee.
  • Attend Department meetings and take notes of discussion.
  • Organize and prepare for meetings, including gathering documents and attending to logistics of meetings.
  • Coordinates with area agencies, such as the Cedar City - Brian Head Tourism Bureau, Chamber of Commerce, Iron County School Board, Iron County Commissioners, Historic Downtown Economic Committee, etc.
  • Operates computer utilizing various software programs (Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite Applications etc.).
  • Assists with inter-department special projects as assigned. Must show flexibility to work with other departments when assigned.
  • Creates a regular Department newsletter to communicate economic development and event activity to Cedar City Council and Iron County Commissioner.
  • Performs research for appropriate grants and coordinates with Director to obtain approved grants, tracking grants, as well as assisting in administering Department grant programs.
  • Track, prepare, reconcile, and submit Department expenses, receipts, statements, and invoices.
  • Maintain paper and electronic filing systems.
  • Maintain confidential and sensitive information.
  • Manage Department scheduling and travel arrangements.
  • Assist Director in reviewing and sending communications on behalf of the Department.
  • Performs related duties as required.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAny combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.Three years of general clerical experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Utah driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands

While performing duties of job, employee typically handles office equipment, objects or controls. Moderate physical exertion is present because of moderate stooping and kneeling required. Employee may sit or stand for long periods of time and may occasionally move up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment

Employee will work in a generally comfortable office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal. Moderate mental effort is required daily; moderate mental pressure and fatigue exist during a normal workday; daily contact with the public, employees and high-profile individual’s. Regular attendance and occasional overtime is necessary. Some evening work is required.

Meeting with the public, elected officials, and staff are necessary and therefore onsite work is an essential function of this job. Remote work options are limited.
