📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
National Manager, Trust Real Estate
The National Manager, Trust Real Estate, is responsible for leading a team of 15 -- 20 trust colleagues, including Regional Real Estate Asset Managers, Property Managers, Trust Client Assistants and Trust Real Estate Operations Analysts, who administer real estate assets held in trust, estate, and other fiduciary accounts within Personal Trust.
Individuals in this role would utilize their real estate and fiduciary expertise to ensure the department's efficient and effective management of its portfolio of properties, including single family residential, multi-tenant residential, commercial, unimproved land, agricultural and other types of real estate interests (leasehold, leased fee) including income-producing and non-incoming producing properties. Responsible for process and success of sales/acquisition process, real estate portfolio growth, preserving and managing those assets, and developing and implementing the strategies and procedures designed to mitigate risk.
This role has direct and indirect responsibility for new business development, serving as a subject matter expert for helping develop new business opportunities, assessing risk of the Trust Company being asked to serve as fiduciary for accounts holding real estate and the impact on relationship profitability.
The Manager will coach, lead, and mentor Trust Real Estate colleagues located coast to coast to achieve an exceptional level of competence and a service model delivered with excellence. This department serves both Comerica Advisor Solutions and the Private Wealth lines of business.
Position Responsibilities
Revenue Growth -- Financial Performance and Sales
While operating within the Bank's risk appetite, achieve financial metrics established in budgets.Develop and update pricing schedules that adequately compensate the Bank for the risk undertaken; ensure that pricing is reasonable and in line with the Bank's main competition.Develop and implement strategies that support the growth of real estate assets under administration for Wealth Management.Develop and implement effective practices that are designed to maximize client retention efforts.
Fiduciary Administration, Oversight & Governance
Establish expectations and metrics that ensure the highest quality and timeliness of client service.Establish expectations for superior and appropriate fiduciary administration and risk management of properties.Inspect and oversee activities, actions, decisions, and behaviors of asset managers and TRE Operations colleagues to ensure appropriate administration of properties.Promote an effective, sustainable risk management culture.Develop and foster a "premier provider" mentality that encourages a well-managed risk framework for self and all team members.Support a culture that everyone owns risk, and that the TRE colleagues are one first line of defense.Recommend and gain approval of policies and procedures.
Leadership and Management
Ensure team members have adequate subject matter expertise for their areas of specialty, including development of effective ongoing training and continuous learning.Supervise direct reports in management of day-to-day activities, enhance their professional development, and improve team performance.Address performance gaps immediately with the goal to improve performance.Ensure team completes compliance requirements including but not limited to asset reviews, presenting proper rationale for discretionary actions, completing required corporate compliance training, and conducting business aligns with all policies.Identify next best development needs for the practice area.Collaborate with internal partners to support sound fiduciary practices and exceptional administration of the book of business and to resolve issues.
Position Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited University10 or more years of experience in Fiduciary Real Estate Administration2 years of experience in leadership experience
Preferred
Master's degree, JD, MBA, or other advanced level education
