Responsibilities
The Environmental Engineer Technologist 1 of the Floodplain Management Section within the Water Resource Branch is a professional level position that allows the incumbent to work across agency and organizational lines with both the public and the regulated community providing technical, scientific assistance in reviewing projects that are applying for a permit to conduct construction activities in the FEMA Regulated 1% annual chance Floodplain or Floodway and to evaluate the impact of the project on the base flood elevation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Evaluates stream construction applications to determine compliance with existing state and federal FEMA regulations. Conducts application reviews and issues Stream Construction permits using Advantage Regulatory Management (ARM). Conducts and verifies provided HEC-RAS hydraulic reviews of proposed construction projects to ensure compliance with existing state and federal requirements for impact on base flood elevation. Conducts compliance reviews of floodplain investigations to determine if unpermitted construction was in compliance with regulatory requirements and if in violation, work with the constructor to bring the project into compliance. Provides technical assistance in stream construction projects through reviews, responses, and comments on applications or compliance investigations. Provides training and oversight to lower-level engineers and aid the section in overall talent development.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in engineering approved by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an office setting. Frequent travel throughout the state may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
