PennDOT is currently looking for skilled Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanics to join our team in supporting the Bedford County Maintenance Organization. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As part of this position, your responsibilities will include repairing and servicing various vehicles such as cars, trucks, and tractors. You will also conduct maintenance and repairs on equipment like sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders. Additionally, you will be tasked with replacing and repairing parts such as shock absorbers, transmissions, clutches, brakes, and more. You will also perform wheel balancing, check alignment, make minor body repairs, and test alternators and electrical components. Furthermore, you will carry out preventive maintenance on vehicles, equipment, and parts. You will diagnose automotive mechanical issues, perform tune-ups, tire changes, and repair or replace engine sub-assemblies. You will also handle cooling, suspension, electrical, heating, air-conditioning, fuel, brake, steering, and transmission systems. Moreover, you will repair or rebuild construction and shop equipment. Lastly, you will conduct official state inspections for safety and emissions, ensuring compliance with specifications, conducting road tests, completing inspection stickers, and maintaining inspection records and paperwork. .

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full-time employment. Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program; or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements

Must possess a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License. Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Conditions of Employment

All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment. Certain positions may require employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 1, 4, or 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment. All positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
