📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
Schedule: 4x10s, Monday through Friday, 7:00AM – 5:30PM, day off may vary each week
Requirements
2+ years of Medical Assistant experienceMust have experience with manual vitalsBLS CertificationExperience with NextGen preferred but not required
Responsibilities
Accountable for the quality of care rendered to patientsResponsible for assessing and implementing direct and indirect care, and identifying outcomes for patients in the gastroenterology settingSystematically assessing the health status of individuals and record related health dataActing sensitively with consideration to the diversity of the patient or groupAssisting the physician during procedures to promote optimal patient outcomes by team collaborationMaintain effective working relationships with practitioners and other health center support staffMaintain patient confidentiality in compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulationsMaintain effective working relationships with peers, physicians, and managementResponding to emergency situations to promote optimal patient outcomes by recognizing changes in the patient’s health statusPerforming diagnostic studies as ordered by a physicianDocumenting patient data to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of patient careActing as a resource for othersServing as a mentor for other Medical AssistantsParticipating in data collection for research using evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomesMonitoring performance by developing and participating in performance improvement activitiesInterview patients, take vitals, room patients, document required information for patient’s visitCheck-in patients: take copays, update patient demographic informationCheck-out patients: make follow-up appointments, print lab/radiology requisitionsFile patient documentation electronicallyAnswer phones, manage voicemailsSchedule new patient consults, office visits, or emergency patients based on patient needsDiagnostic Recall letters – inform physicians and patient that it is time to return for follow-up testingMonitor inbox including calling patients with results of their procedure biopsies, giving patients responses from MDsAssist physician with anoscopy and rubber banding procedures for hemorrhoid treatmentPerform Hydrogen Breath Tests and maintain test results binder and call patients with resultsClean and stock exam roomsPerform prior authorizations for medicationsMake sure all bloodwork, radiology, and patients records are in patient chart prior to appointmentEnsure proper recalls are enteredUpdate results from radiology and all pathology in order managementCheck patient portal message and respondPatient education: print and fold pamphlets when supplies are lowDiscard expired medications properlyFax records when neededFold, insert, stamp, and send all patient recall lettersMaintain current certificationsOther tasks and duties deemed necessary at the discretion of the physicians and management
