Senior Controls Engineer
📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities
Craft Automation is seeking a full-time Senior Controls Engineer to join their Kalamazoo engineering and product development team. This position is not remote.
As a Senior Controls Engineer, you’ll provide technical support for the design, development, and implementation of automated processing systems for the craft brewing, distilling, and agricultural industries while working on both custom implementations as well as the design of Craft’s signature products. You’ll also be working alongside our application, sales, and production teams to promote innovation and drive the industry standard.
What You’ll Do,
Work with Management, Sales, & Potential Clients to create and refine an appropriate scope of work for new and prospective projects. Define and create process automation schema for individual clients using both new and existing equipment. Create proposals for potential automation “sophistication” and cost levels to meet client needs. Create HMI and PLC program code for use in IDEC, Allen Bradley, and other controls systems. Travel to breweries, distilleries, and extraction operations to support our production and installation teams during system startup.Provide remote debugging, troubleshooting and “help desk” support for existing customer installations. Lead the controls strategy with innovative custom programming and efficient standard process control.Light travel as necessary (20%) for commissioning, conferences, and sales visits

Your Skill Set,
Must be able to read and understand both electrical and mechanical blueprints & schematics.Ability to create, design and program control schema for clients utilizing process flow, P&ID and other technical documentation.Write PLC and HMI Software Programs for various types of equipment/machinery both from scratch and using Craft source code.Familiarity with VFDs and various types of sensors and motion controls. Professional manner and ability to speak cohesively with clients as necessary.
Your Abilities,
5+ years working with process automation & controls. 4-year College/University Bachelor’s degree in related field is a plus.5+ years’ experience programming for facility-wide processing within the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, or other similar industry. Self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude.Experience with IDEC controls systems required.
Desirables
Familiarity with AutoCAD LT desirable.Knowledge of brewing and distilling processes a plus.Knowledge of software development in Ignition and/or other programming languages a HUGE plus. UL 508A MTR certification and/or experience plus.Ability to work cross-functionally without direct supervision.
Potential Compensation
Compensation commensurate with experience (70K to 120K range) 401K (5% match) & health benefits available
