Job Duties

The Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents is looking for a part time Intake and Admission Specialist to manage referrals for admission (can be day, evening, nights, holidays, and /or weekends) to include screening referrals for appropriateness, providing information and referral services for those deemed not appropriate or those unable to be accommodated when beds are not available; communicating referral information within the Center; and keeping referral and admissions statistics.

The Intake and Admission Specialist will also divert youth to private sector when possible/appropriateness; compile thorough information prior to admission or as soon thereafter as is possible; evaluate information received during referral process and prepare all admission paperwork prior to admission; notify patients and/or guardians of their rights and responsibilities when signing consent forms, and adolescent and/or guardian in completion of admissions paperwork, either in person, by fax, secure email or arranging with community agencies to send fax to the legal guardian; inputs to database information on admissions, waiting lists, types of admissions, and discharges on an ongoing basis as evidenced by documentation; and maintains ECO notification database and Referral call database throughout shift.

Minimum Qualifications

understanding of Code of Virginia relating to child mental health issues good interpersonal skills/ability to relate to a variety of community agency representatives effective written and oral communication skills detail-oriented with strong organizational skills proficient with the use of computers knowledge and understanding of CSA and mental health resources for children and adolescents

Additional Considerations

college degree in social work, human services, or other related field previous knowledge and/or experience with intake and admission and/or child and adolescent mental health issues and resources bilingual veteran
