About The Role

DNV Energy Systems group has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Power System Study Engineer, in its Renewables & Power Grids service area. Our team provides creative, cost effective and practical solutions to stakeholders in the power generation, transmission, and distribution systems. The Senior Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive and be passionate about contributing to the growth of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in delivering technical insights and providing customers with excellent customer service.
This position is Remote or based within reasonable commuting distance from any of our DNV offices in US.
What Youll Do
Perform electrical power system steady state, short circuit, dynamic and transient stability analyses for renewable generation interconnection including Wind (Onshore, Offshore), Solar, Storage, hybrid projectsPerform electrical grid short term and long term transmission planning studies for onshore and offshore generation interconnections, load interconnections, transmission development and interconnections Perform Voltage ride through (VRT) studies, dynamic model quality tests, model benchmarking analysis using different power system modeling software Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in transmission planning steady state, dynamic and transient stability studiesServe as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for area related to transmission grid reliabilityProduce and/or review quality technical reports and presentations for both internal and external stakeholdersDevelop or modify automation scripts to enhance the efficiency, speed and accuracy of technical simulationsActively attend (in person or remote) industry stakeholder meetingsStay up to date with assigned market changes in terms of NERC, FERC planning procedures, policy changes and developmentsContribute to the teams research and innovation activities in terms of development of new techniques and/or analytical tools to further the teams performance in terms of efficiency and/or capability improvementsCultivate new customer relationships, and assist in preparing responses to Requests for Proposals (RFP) and provide Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) for new tenders/bids/opportunities

As required by the Pay Transparency laws in Colorado, New York City, California, Washington, and Connecticut, DNV provides a reasonable compensation range for roles that may be hired in those locations. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the states of Colorado, New York City, NY, California, Washington, and Connecticut only, the range of starting pay for this role is $120,000 - $180,000

What is Required
Bachelors degree in Electrical EngineeringIn-depth understanding of fundamentals of electric power systems and renewable energyDirect work experience in transmission planning and development, generation, or load interconnection related analysesMinimum 5 + years of working experience at Utility, ISO/RTO, Consulting environmentMinimum 5 + years of hands-on experiences with power-system tools such as PSS/EKnowledge of North American ISO/RTO grid interconnection and corresponding planning practices, system impact studies, NERC standards such as TPL/MOD/CIPWorking knowledge of automation scripts such as PythonStrong organizational, interpersonal (written & verbal) skills, problem solving and analytical skillsAbility to work in a dynamic team environmentExcellent oral and written communications skills in EnglishWe conduct pre-employment drug and background screening
What Is Preferred
Active PE LicenseGraduate level degree with emphasis on Electric Power SystemsHands on experience performing Dynamic Stability StudiesDemonstrable hands-on experience with one or more power system analysis software packages including TSAT, TARA, ASPEN, PSLFKnowledge of ERCOT Electricity Market planning & interconnection practicesKnowledge of other Electricity Markets (such as PJM, MISO, NYISO, ISONE and CAISO) planning & interconnection practices
