Dow Performance Silicones has an opening for a Sr. R&D Technician in the Resins, Coatings, and Adhesives (RCA) Product Development team located in Midland MI.

About You and This Role

You will support testing and development activities for new silicone-based Resin materials. Silicone resins are used across all of Dow Performance Silicones major markets since they are a key enabling material for a wide variety of applications such as high temperature coatings, moldable optical silicones, hot melt adhesives, antifoams, and composites for battery fire protection. Future technology development will focus on next generation, sustainable solutions for each market segment. You will provide laboratory support for a wide range of activities including new product development, formulation, prototyping and testing focused on specific customer needs. Responsibilities

Works as part of a team in a laboratory supporting chemists and engineers in developing, screening and commercializing silicone resins. Specific activities include: Formulating new resins into viable product prototypes, testing new resin formulations including cure speed, tack, adhesion, abrasion resistance, tensile testing, rheology (DMA), thermal analysis (DSC, TGA), and viscosityGenerating articles (i.e. coatings, free standing films, impregnated fiber mats, monoliths, etc…) for application testing aligned with customer needs.Lab ownership responsibilities include equipment support and compliance with all safety requirements. Responsible for calibration, safe operation and routine maintenance of simple and complex instruments, machinery, and system components.Develops experimental plans for review/approval by Lead Scientist or Technology Leader, and executes approved plans by performing routine and non-standard tasks or procedures of higher complexity.Communicates scientific observations to project team or principle investigator, and organizes and prepares data tables and charts for inclusion in supported studies.Develops expertise within the department and laboratory work group in specific procedures, equipment, or instruments.Maintains inventories of consumable materials, chemicals, and supplies related to activities by anticipating usage rates, order lead times, and ordering/purchasing procedures.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of an Associate’s degree in a technical field (chemistry related degrees are preferred); or Military Degree Equivalency (MDE) and 3 years of relevant work experience; or high school diploma/GED and 5 years of relevant work experience.Previous experience working in a laboratory environment.Must be willing and able to work in such environments wearing safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes, along with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.Must be willing and able to climb stairs and stand or walk for extended periods of time.A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Skills

Bachelor's degree in a technical field or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E6 ranking or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class rankingGood written and verbal communication skills.Excellent organization skills.Able to work in a team environment.Experience with formulation, prototyping and/or materials science testing.
