Chief Traffic Engineer

This individual will serve as a leader within the Traffic Group and be responsible for project management, development of traffic design plans, quality control reviews, marketing pursuits, and mentorship of junior staff. Required Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead Traffic Engineering Team by directing traffic team resources with a focus on quality; train, mentor, and direct younger staff; leading internal training programs; support and lead recruiting efforts and actively participate in industry events. Serve as project manager and/or technical professional and maintain responsible charge over traffic design/engineering tasksPerform quality control reviews and lead quality control efforts for the Traffic Group.Assist and/or lead marketing efforts for the Traffic Group related to traffic design, operations, and/or studies. Marketing pursuits will be catered to the development and growth of ELEMENT and the Traffic Group and split between support of design project pursuits and targeted prime pursuits. Marketing efforts will also include supporting relationship development for subconsultant and priming opportunities. Focus on leading team to win an FDOT traffic design and/or studies contract as a prime.Produce lighting, ITS, signing and pavement marking, and signal plans in accordance with FDOT and local agency standards.Engineering analysis and design using current best practices with a focus on Vision Zero principles and the Safe System approach.Support strategy planning related to new traffic-related service lines and growth of ELEMENT.Conduct field reviews for project design and construction. Effectively communicate and coordinate with other members of the design team and across disciplines.Meet with clients and attend public meetings, as necessary.Maintain professional engineering registration.

Required Qualifications

Professional Engineer registered in Florida with 10 to 20 years of post-registration experience Bachelor’s degree in Civil EngineeringTraffic design expertise including signals, ITS, and lightingKnowledge with the current Florida Department of Transportation Manuals such as FDOT Design Manual, Florida Standard Plans, the Traffic Engineering Manual, Manual on Uniform Traffic Studies, and Florida Greenbook in addition to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Excellent technical, written, and oral communication skillsStrong working knowledge of MicroStation, experience with ORD is a plus.Legally authorized to work in the United States.
