Job Title: HVAC Technician I - 1st Shift - 7:00-3:00pm

Job Summary: The HVAC Technician is responsible for the operations, repairs, replacement and preventative maintenance of commercial and industrial air conditioning and heating systems, air handlers, fan coil units, water treatment equipment, controls and other building mechanical and electrical equipment. The individual must be self-motivated and work with little supervision. Good communication skills; verbal and written are imperative. The individual must maintain safe work practices in support of the OSHA Health & Safety and NFPA 70e standards as it applies when performing the assigned duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Ability to read and understand system blueprints, specifications, and performance data to determine configuration and purpose of system components such as compressors, motors, pumps, fans, switches, controls, ducts, or pipes.Inspects system to verify system compliance with plans and specifications and to detect malfunctions in system component parts.Opens valves on equipment such as compressors, pumps, and condensers to prepare system for operation and starts equipment and auxiliary machinery.Starts systems, observes operation, reads gauges and instruments, and adjusts mechanisms such as actuators, valves, controls, and pumps to control system operation.Monitors Energy Management System — For alarms, out of spec situations, investigates and takes appropriate actions.Responds to associated Hot/Cold temperature complaints.Discusses system malfunctions with the Journeyman to isolate problems.Records temperature, pressure, and other readings on log sheet at specified intervals.Operates refrigerant recovery equipment, vacuum pumps, charging equipment and service gauges.Screws, bolts, rivets, welds, and brazes parts to assemble structural and functional components such as motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring harnesses, valves, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, and pipes.Installs wiring to connect components to electric power source.Dismantles malfunctioning systems and tests components.Replaces or adjusts defective or worn parts to repair systems.Cuts, threads, gas welds, and connects pipe to functional components of HVAC systems.Cuts, bends, crimp sheet metal, install air ducts and associated sheet metal components.Inspects and measures building to determine airflow requirements.Installation of complete heat and air conditioning systems.Lubricate fans, motors, and control units.Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical heat and refrigeration systems.Maintain, organize, control, inventory supplies, tools, and equipment.Clean and organize shop area. Maintain inventory of spare parts and material. Maintain tools and equipment for maintenance work.Performs preventative maintenance tasking on all HVAC equipment. Repair and maintenance on all HVAC equipment.Attends classes and seminars on air conditioning components and system design to update skills. Responsible for accurate and timely paperwork related to essential duties and responsibilities. Performs other routine duties.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED 2 years of experience in maintaining similar type and size commercial equipment, along with a current Universal CFC certification Strong oral and written communication required. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform duties with minimal supervision in isolated areas. Knowledge and experience in the proper use and safe operation of hand tools, equipment and testing devices necessary to perform all work assignments. Valid Vehicle Operators license Ability to stand, sit or squat for extended periods of time. Ability to lift, move and carry material up to 50 lbs. Ability to climb stairs, ladders and work at extended heights. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). i.e. but not limited to, Dust mask, gloves, eye protection and hearing protection. Working knowledge of desktop computers and Internet based programs to perform required annual training. Ability to wear a company uniform and maintain a neat personal appearance This position will require a background check and drug screening

Work environment

Work in an environment where the following safety equipment is needed; steel toe shoes, hearing protection, noise protection, hardhat, eye protection, and hand protection. Abide by OSHA guidelines including lock-out/tag-out and HAZCOM guidelines and all other Company/Customer driven safety initiatives. Hours of work are solely defined and governed by business volume and contract schedules. Ability to handle stressful situations and remain calm in the face of the customer and subordinates
