Exempt Status: Non-Exempt

Summary: Responsible to perform a variety of tasks directly related to the assembly of steel products and other miscellaneous tasks. Responsible to work from shop drawings and FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW weld procedures to perform welding on a variety of metals and alloys, plan, layout, select weld materials, and perform other tasks involving the use of welding and other shop equipment.

Essential Functions

Fabricate assemblies following company procedures.

Work under direct supervision of a Mechanic.

Weld material in using multiple processes FCAW, SMAW, GTAW).

Work from specifications, drawings, prints and welding symbols.

Setup welding equipment in accordance with written welding procedures, assemble and layout.

Flame cut various parts and materials with manual and automated cutting equipment.

Use hand tools including grinders, plasma cutters, air arc, and cutting torches.

Assist the Plant Manager, Manufacturing Supervisors and Welding Supervisors in making positive contributions and suggestions to complete scheduled Manufacturing requirements.

Maintain good general housekeeping duties; participate in departmental clean-up when required.

Work under direct supervision of a Mechanic.

Operate machinery and equipment in a safe manner; and adhere 100% to our safety policies.

Adhere to (QMS) Quality Management System, which enables us to meet and exceed our customer’s expectations.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Technical Skills

Ability to read blueprints and sketches

Ability to read welding symbols

Ability to recognize welding characteristics of metals or alloys

Ability to understand welding best practice i.e. methods and techniques

Basic layout skills

Ability to use power tools use in metal fabrication

Ability to set up weld machine in accordance with written welding procedures

Knowledge of metal fabrication shop processes and procedures

Strong knowledge of welding procedures

Knowledge of product identification, traceability and status

Ability to read and interpret complex drawings.

Working knowledge of equipment and machinery used at shop.

Ability to adhere to Quality Policy.

Ability to pass company welding tests in the following disciplines:

FCAW - Flux Core Arc WeldingSMAW - Shielded Metal Arc WeldingGTAW - Gas Tungsten Arc Welding

Physical Requirements

Ability to work in a heavy manufacturing environment requiring awkward stances and positions for periods of time throughout an 8 to 10 hour day.

Ability to stand and walk for majority of 8 to 10 hour day, bend, climb ladders and scaffolding 10 to 25 feet above ground level.

Ability to lift product, equipment and tools up to 50 pounds throughout the day.

Ability to push or pull product up to 200 pounds on an infrequent basis; use hand tools up to 20 pounds over extended periods of time.

Education: High school graduate or GED; Technical Degree preferred. Equivalent experience considered at the discretion of management.

Experience: Three to five years of welding and assembly experience in related industry desired. Related experience considered at the discretion of management.
