The Role

Our facility in Bedford, MA is seeking a Sr. Scientist to join the R&D team. The Specialty Coatings R&D group is working on the development of new coatings solutions, advanced technologies, novel capabilities, and new platforms. We are looking for an experienced candidate with strong technical and scientific background and extensive experience in the introduction and development of new technologies that will lead sizable development projects for critical coatings applications.

What You’ll Do:

Pursue special projects, develop plans, and support the activities for exploring new technologies as it pertains to new materials, new capabilities for use in coatings, surface modifications and wafer chuck technologies, as well as new applications in related technology market segmentsInterface with technology vendors and partners in academia, research labs and industry Analyze situations, implement solutions, and develop new capabilities, systems, or technology elementsAssist in the development of technology and product roadmaps. Understand and validate product and customer requirements for future products by conducting research, literature search and through engagements with customersRecommend solutions to technology and product enhancements to address future customer requirements Work with internal and external resources to examine, evaluate, and test advanced technologies to qualify for variety new applicationsProve, apply, and interpret scientific or engineering laws and theories; this includes planning, development, and implementation of experimentation for current and future product and technology applicationsCommunicate plans for development and results internal and external to the organization; coordinate internal communications with Applications Development, Engineering, Sales, Manufacturing and Management via plans, team meetings, and other written/oral communicationsPursue fundamental materials characterization and attribute testing for existing and new materials/coatings systemsProvide technical leadership for resolution of complex customer problems. Assure IP ownership.

What We Seek

MS/Ph.D. Degree in Materials Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field Minimum of 8+ years of experience in new materials/product development, vacuum coatings, IC manufacturing technologies, or related areasKnowledge of the microelectronics industry and knowledge of thin film deposition processes (ALD/PVD/PECVD), etch (metal/dielectric/conductor), patterning (lithography/EUV), metrology, integration, tooling, and manufacturing / process tool equipmentTechnical expert in thin film coatings technologies, thin film characterization techniques and/or semiconductor wafer handlingExcellent communications skills and ability to communicate cross functionally between groups and regionsStrong problem-solving skills Project and program management skills Focus on key development processes to ensure that they are robust, repeatable, and reliable using Six Sigma principles such as DOE, FMEA, MSA, SPC and use of MinitabExperiencing managing and prioritizing multiple activities at once to accomplish Company goals
