Roofing Products Engineer

Crafco, Inc. has an opening for a Roofing Products Engineer at our facility in Chandler, AZ.

The Roofing Product Scientist is the responsible for product development, formulations, specification development, performance/improvement studies, manufacturing process and technical support for Crafco modified asphalt products, roofing, waterproofing and other industrial uses. The Roofing Product Scientist must have leadership and presentation skills and an extensive understanding of applicable specifications; required product performance characteristics; asphalt, polymer, and modifier raw materials; experimental methods and have sufficient computer and communications skills.

Specific Duties

Communicate and interact with customers and sales personnel to determine needed characteristics of desired productsTake the lead on projects and supervise and lead on projectsIdentify appropriate raw materials needed to achieve desired characteristicsDesign and oversee studies/verification evaluations to be performed by Crafco or outside sources to develop product formulationsDevelop manufacturing instructions and procedures at production plantsDevelop quality control procedures for raw materials and finished products for production plantsPut forth new and innovative product types that could be offered by the companyOversee/evaluate raw materials and finished product quality results to determine if adjustments in formulations or processes are neededMaintain up to date formulations and manufacturing instructions for assigned products at plants for assigned productsMaintain needed customer or outside agency / organization approvals needed for assigned productsOptimize formulations considering specification conformance and production quality resultsProvide answers to customer questions and recommendations on product specifications, properties, performance, use, applicability, etc.Understand competitive product characteristics and performance

Qualifications Include

BS degree in an appropriate engineering or other scientific fieldMinimum of 3 year related work experience in asphalt products and product developmentWorking knowledge of email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MRP program systemsAbility for up to approximately 25% travel when neededAbility to lift 50 lbs.
