This position exists to build technical knowledge in the field of Molecular Spectroscopy. The Industrial Scientist will work to provide analytical services and interpretation for RD&I and other groups of Evonik Industries in NA Region (including all Divisions) and external customers in potential.
This position is part of an Industrial Scientist 15 month development program. After successful completion of the program, employee may transition into a role within the Evonik Analytics group.
Responsibilities
Must be able to perform spectroscopic (NMR, IR) analytical measurements, proficient on interpreting NMR & IR raw data and spectrum. Able to do method development, validation and documentation; Set up and maintain analytical instruments (including initial and regular qualification). Run other analytical measurements if necessary, such as chromatography, mass spectrometry, titration, physical measurements, thermal analysis, and particle characterization etc. Be a consultant to communicate with colleagues who have analytical questions. Participate in their research projects. Be responsible for all ESH and legal related issues in the lab, including but not limited to: 1) compliant with all legal requirement, including certificate, permit/license; 2) train the related employees; 3) incident/near miss reporting and investigation etc. 4) ensure know-how protection. Participate in other shared responsibilities within the group, for example, inventories, other instrument maintenance, purchasing, ISO certification (if needed) and other related tasks. Participate in other activities, such as documentation, reporting, safety and training etc.
Requirements
Preferably Master's or above degree in Analytical Chemistry with 0-2 years of experience Strong knowledge in molecular spectroscopy (NMR, IR), and mass spectrometry, preferably knowledge in chromatographic methods (GC, HPLC, IC, GPC), elemental spectrometry (ICP-OES), titration and physical measurements (thermal analysis, particle characterization) etc. Good communication skills required in dealing with direct colleagues, internal clients, and German technical experts; Team working experience Good oral and written English skill.
