Tax Specialist

Position Overview:We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Tax Specialist to join our team. As a Tax Specialist, you will be responsible for analyzing financial data, preparing tax returns, and ensuring compliance with tax regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial concepts and sales, as well as experience in public accounting and financial services.

Primary Job Responsibilities:Coordinate, supervise, and review federal, state, and international taxes prepared by outside tax advisors.Provide supporting documents to tax consultants, including monthly/quarterly sales tax support and quarterly/annual income tax support.Review deliverables from tax consultants to uphold a timely tax calendar, covering income tax estimates, extensions, and tax returns.Prepare and file US state sales taxes and Canadian GST taxes.Prepare precise calculations for personal property tax files, business licenses, and other local tax filings.Update tax codes in the ERP system to ensure accurate and up-to-date tax information.Assist with the development and implementation of tax-saving strategies for the consolidated group.Maintain a comprehensive tax calendar for income taxes, sales tax, property tax, and various business license filings.Conduct assessments of US sales tax nexus and propose new registrations when thresholds are met.Provide proactive updates on any changes in tax laws or regulations that may impact the organization.Respond to audit requests from various taxing authorities as required.Provide support on other ad hoc tasks as requested.

Required Education and Related Job Experience:Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related fieldCPA certification preferredMinimum of 5 years of experience in tax preparation or related fieldStrong knowledge of financial concepts and accounting principlesExperience with accounting software and spreadsheetsFamiliarity with regulatory reporting requirementsExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsExceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data analysisStrong communication skills, both written and verbal
