📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities

The Fair Housing Center of Southeast & Mid Michigan seeks a qualified individual to serve as the first point of contact with the organization, providing programmatic and administrative support.

OrganizationThe Fair Housing Center of Southeast & Mid Michigan is a nonprofit civil rights organization working to investigate illegal housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, familial status, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, income source, and student status. Based in Ypsilanti and with a satellite office in Lansing, we provide services to 10 counties: Clinton, Eaton, Hillsdale, Ingham, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Shiawassee, and Washtenaw.

Responsibilitiesanswering phones, conducting fair housing complaint intake, and providing appropriate referrals for non-fair housing callsmonitoring and responding to a dedicated complaint email accountcollecting and analyzing data from complaint filesassisting with various administrative tasks (copying, scanning, faxing, mailing, ordering office supplies, etc.)organizing physical and electronic filesdata entry on a cloud-based databaseother tasks as assigned

Qualificationsability to work independently while asking for help/guidance when neededproven time management skillsexceptional verbal and written communication skillshigh level of empathy and patienceability and desire to work with people from diverse backgroundsexcellent attention to detailability to maintain confidentialityfluency in both Microsoft Office 2013 and Google Drive applications

Desired Experiencedemonstrated interest in advocacy, civil rights, disability, and/or nonprofit workexperience conducting telephone intakesfamiliarity with social service agencies throughout southeast and mid Michigan

CompensationSalary: $25/hour, 32 hours a weekBenefits: health insurance, 3 weeks paid vacation, paid holidaysWork format: Hybrid. This position requires in-person work and permits some virtual/remote work.
