The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Controller to own and lead the financial management and accounting functions for the dealer. As the Controller, you will play a vital role in overseeing the financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, processing contracts, handling DMV and tax remittance, and providing strategic guidance to drive the dealership's financial success. This position represents a unique opportunity to join our dynamic team as we establish a dedicated accounting support team under new ownership.

The Position

Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and variance analyses. You will also present financial reports to senior management and provide insightful recommendations to improve financial performance. Lead the budgeting process, working collaboratively with department heads to develop detailed annual budgets (FP&A). This includes monitoring budget performance throughout the year and providing regular forecasts to support decision-making. Establish and maintain robust internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting principles and dealership policies. Own the general ledger and month-end closing activities including reviewing journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial transactions for accuracy and completeness. Conduct in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks (FP&A) in which you will present findings and recommendations to support business strategies and objectives. Oversee and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for dealership employees, collaborating with the Accounting Clerk to collect timesheets, calculate commissions, and maintain payroll records. Monitor cash flow, manage banking relationships, and ensure sufficient funds are available to meet operational needs. Coordinate with external tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns. Facilitate both internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with audit requirements. Manage and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and collaboration. Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, enhance efficiency, and implement best practices to optimize financial operations.

The Requirements...

A proven experience in a senior-level automotive accounting or finance role, with at least 5 years of experience in a leadership position. Experience within the automotive industry or dealership environment is a very strong plus. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A Master's degree and/or relevant certifications such as CPA or CMA are preferred. Experience with MS Suite (Word, Excel, etc) and accounting and/or financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar). Experience specifically in dealership management software (e.g. Reynolds and/or CDK) is a very strong plus. Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
