📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities

ROLE: Youth Program Intern SUPERVISOR: Youth Program CoordinatorREPORTS TO: Youth Program CoordinatorReporting Structure: The intern will report to Jane Randolph for any questions and concerns about policies and procedures. Additionally, the intern will consult with the Curriculum Director and Social Outreach Coordinator and assist them as requested and needed.OFFICE: Filipino Community of Seattle Innovation Learning CenterFLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Position Work hours: 10am-3pm Monday - FridaySalary: $20/hour

ABOUT THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY OF SEATTLEThe Filipino Community of Seattle is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster the well-being of Filipinx in Greater Seattle through culturally appropriate services and gathering spaces. We develop client centered social service programs for Filipinx community members and friends who come through our doors; open our spaces to anyone to gather; advocate for social justice, equity and inclusion for ALL people; and respect and preserve the Filipinx history and traditions through arts and cultural programs. FCS prides itself on fostering efficient, effective solutions across a wide range of community needs.

OVERVIEW: Funded by the United Way of King County’s Love and Liberation grant and Best Starts for Kids (BSK), the intern will play a crucial role in supporting the facilitation of The Filipino Community of Seattle's youth program. The primary objective is to ensure the seamless delivery of high-quality instruction.This position involves active participation in FCS Youth Development Programs (YDP) conducted in the Innovation Learning Center, along with providing assistance during summer program field trips. Interns will have the opportunity to acquire valuable skills essential for job development and personal growth, including but not limited to communication, leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, and program coordination.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Develops strong communication and teamwork skills through collaboration with Youth Program staff to smoothly implement daily activities and utilize provided materials effectively.• Enhances problem-solving abilities by providing academic support through tutoring youth program participants in subjects such as math, English/reading, science, and social studies.• Gains experience in content creation and digital outreach by assisting outreach staff in capturing engaging social media content, including photos and videos, to promote the program's dynamic nature.• Refines organizational skills by supporting Youth Development Programs (YDP) staff in preparing physical materials crucial for programming, contributing to a well-structured and stimulating environment.• Engages in personal development through regular check-ins with YDP staff to discuss progress and establish goals, fostering continuous improvement and growth.• Cultivates networking skills by establishing and maintaining relationships with collaborative partners, actively seeking opportunities for new partnerships to enrich the youth program.• Demonstrates initiative and responsibility in maintaining a clean and organized workspace by taking the lead in cleaning up and organizing the Youth Program office, ensuring efficiency both during and after program hours.• Exhibits a welcoming and organized approach as the designated intake person for youth program participants upon their arrival, ensuring a positive and structured start to their program experience.•Abide by the conflict of interest policy as well as the code of conduct.

QUALIFICATIONS • Demonstrates the ability to cultivate strong professional relationships within the organization and build trust with students, their families, and staff.• Communicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.• Exhibits strong time management and organizational skills.• Capable of effective class management and conflict resolution when working with youth.• Displays flexibility and dedication to meeting varying program needs.• Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, and Canva.• Shows a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and aligns with the mission of The Filipino Community of Seattle (FCS).• Possesses cross-cultural experience and sensitivity.• Works collaboratively as a team member.• Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.• Successfully completed Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry.• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with individuals of various ages and backgrounds.• Passion for community engagement and a genuine interest in the well-being and development of youth.• Proven ability to multitask and handle various responsibilities simultaneously.
