The Director of Financial Reporting reports to the Chief Accounting Officer. The Director of Financial Reporting will supervise the Manager of Financial Reporting and work on a diverse range of areas that require critical analysis of the underlying business purpose and economics of financial transactions to determine the appropriate accounting and disclosure treatment. In addition, the ideal candidate will mentor and provide meaningful feedback and professional development opportunities to staff and work collaboratively with our stores, store support center departments, senior management, and external stakeholders.

Scope of Responsibility

Directs the SEC financial reporting process for quarterly and annual financial reports, including financial statement, footnote, MD&A, and earnings release disclosuresManage the preparation and review of the monthly internal financial reporting package, and lead the accounting discussion during the monthly financial review meeting with the executive leadership teamFacilitates the completion and review of monthly and quarterly corporate accounting and close activities, including debt, equity, taxes, consolidations, and other areasLead purchase accounting and valuation activities for acquisitionsResearches technical accounting issues, prepares research memos, and provides expert guidance and advice to senior management and the Board of Directors for a variety of topics, including the following:New accounting guidance issued by standard setting and regulatory agenciesQuestions regarding application of the Company’s accounting policies and U.S. GAAP related to acquisitions and other significant transactionsLease and purchase contracts for real estate, equipment, and other assetsSAAS contracts, software development, and related capitalization policies and proceduresAssessment of accounting and financial reporting effects of new business initiativesPolicies and benchmarking for financial disclosures, including for 10-Ks/10-Qs, earnings releases, non-GAAP financial measures, and ESGProvides management teams with appropriate information to facilitate budget, forecast, and other reporting needs, and maintains forecast models for capitalized interest and interest expense, stock-based compensation, diluted weighted-average shares outstanding, and other technical areas as neededAssists with the design, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls and accounting policies to promote effective governance and accurate financial reportingConducts special projects as assigned by the Chief Accounting Officer and CFOAnswers questions from stores as well as store support center departmentsAssists with the coordination of external audit activities and audit preparation

Essential Skills

In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, financial statement analysis, and internal controlsAbility to research difficult accounting topics, write position papers, and present to the Chief Accounting Officer, CFO, Audit Committee, and internal and external auditorsDrive process improvements and develop systematic processesAbility to analyze, solve problems, and adapt to changing organizational and operational needsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to provide excellent customer service to internal customers and partner with other functions to improve processes and create valueSkill in organization, prioritization, and attention to detail

Experience & Education

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and active CPA license10+ years of progressive responsibility, including at least 4 years of management experienceBig 4 public accounting experience

Working Conditions (travel, hours, environment)

Limited travel required including air and car travelThe noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
