Nurse Practitioner

Primary PurposePromote and maintain high standards of patient care while providing high-quality medical evaluation services under the supervision of a physician/medical director for the district employee health clinic commensurate with appropriate services corresponding to valid credential and training.

Education / CertificationGraduate of an accredited professional advanced practice nursing education program or Valid advanced practice registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the Board of Nursing Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Special Knowledge / SkillsDemonstrate ability to effectively communicate with employees, patrons and general public.Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision- making.

ExperienceTwo years of experience in clinical field

Major Responsibilities and Duties, in addition to the daily assigned campus nursing duties:

Nurse Practitioners provide diagnostic and therapeutic medical care and services to employees, spouses and their dependents.Assists in observation and evaluation of patients.Performs case histories, conducts physical examinations and order point of care tests.Assess a patient’s condition and to initiate appropriate treatment; knowledge of pharmaceuticals and treat diseases and illnesses, to include a knowledge of the mechanisms of action, side effects, toxic nature, and drug interactions of medications; ability to perform and interpret diagnostics tests in order to determine therapeutic treatment plans; and ability to deal effectively with patients in a one-on-one situation.Follows an orderly approach to handling work and sets priorities. Is conscious of fluctuations in workloads and makes necessary adjustments to ensure a smooth workflow to meet deadlinesRecommends diagnostic or therapeutic interventions with attention to safety, cost, invasiveness, simplicity, acceptability, adherence, and efficacy.Questions old methods where inadequate and suggests new ones; and, takes initiative to develop alternate solutions to problems within the framework of the job.Entering, transcribing, recording, storing or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form.Educates patients about self-management of acute or chronic illnesses, tailoring instructions to patients’ individual’s circumstances.Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the FISD safety program.Supports the goals and objectives of the school district and follows all district policies.Demonstrates the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to district operationsPerforms any other duties as assigned by the appropriate supervisor.Provides optimal customer service to all employees, spouses and their dependents that visit the employee health clinic.

Environment / Working ConditionsMaintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria and communicable diseases

Supervisory ResponsibilitiesMentoring of employee health clinic health services staff. Orientation of new Health Services staff and substitute staff of employee clinic. Assist in directing the work of assigned NP support staff.
