📋 Role Overview & Responsibilities

At Fortis, the Payroll Specialist will be responsible for accurate and timely processing of payroll for employees within the organization. This role involves meticulous attention to detail, adherence to payroll regulations and policies, and effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders. Our Payroll Specialist plays an important role in the employee experience, making sure they are compensated accurately and on time.Key Responsibilitiespayroll transactions for all seven (7) Fortis entities in the U.S., accurately and timely, including but not limited to salary adjustments, overtime, bonuses, commissions, and deductions.payroll records and ensure data integrity by accurately entering and updating employee information in the payroll system.timekeeping records and resolve any discrepancies with employees or managers.and process payroll taxes, including federal, state, and local withholdings, as well as Social Security and Medicare contributions.and distribute paychecks or electronic deposits to employees on designated pay dates.promptly to employee inquiries regarding payroll matters, such as pay discrepancies, tax withholding forms, and payroll policies.in the preparation and filing of payroll reports, including quarterly and annual tax filings, as required by regulatory agencies.updated on changes in payroll regulations and compliance requirements to ensure accurate processing and adherence to legal standards.with HR and finance departments to resolve payroll-related issues and improve payroll processes.confidentiality of payroll information and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.Qualificationsschool diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.experience working in payroll administration role, with a strong understanding of payroll principles, practices, and regulations.in using ADP Workforce Now payroll software and MS Office applications, particularly Excel.numerical aptitude and attention to detail.organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact professionally with employees at all levels.to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve issues independently or collaboratively.of payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements preferred.in payroll administration (e.g., CPP) is a plus.
