Fred Smith Company is searching for an experienced Project Manager for our Public Division in our Raleigh location.This management position is fully accountable for the financial performance and overall management direction for one or more multi-million-dollar construction projects.FSC is an established, and growing, heavy highway, site construction contractor and asphalt manufacturer with approximately 1,300 employees based in Raleigh, North Carolina and operating as far East as Kitty Hawk and as far West as Winston-Salem.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Plan and formulate construction projects according to project requirements and engineering standardsCreate and maintain all project-related documentation and correspondence.Collaborate with field management to ensure successful resolution of issues between the project plan and site execution on an ongoing basisMaintain timely knowledge of what is occurring on projectAppropriately execute authority over issue resolution related to project plan and implementationDemonstrate understanding of when to elevate issues and/or communicate to upper managementCollaborate with the General Superintendent to plan for and organize project staff according to project requirements, including assigning proper personnel to specific projects or components of projectsEnsure and communicate clear roles and responsibilities to entire project teamConduct weekly meetings with project team (to include scheduling and costing review)Develop and effectively manage against project budget and ensure project meets projected/required marginsConduct and document ongoing financial projections of project performance throughout project lifeSubmit accurate and timely cost and income projections for projectSubmit accurate and timely payment requisitionsAppropriately act on changes in project margins and budget variances to ensure project profitabilityDemonstrate a thorough understanding of contract terms and specificationsAct as Fred Smith Company’s representative with owners and owner's engineers at project meetingsDocument all change conditionsComplete all written notification requirementsEnsure accurate recordkeeping is maintained at job siteEnsure timely and appropriate communications of time extensions and delays to owner in accordance with contract requirementDocument, prepare, and initiate claims, if necessaryProtect Fred Smith Company’s interests, minimize conflicts, and professionally resolve issuesDemonstrate thorough understanding of project schedule, key project milestones, and reasons for delays.Identify competent subcontractors and suppliers for projects by comparing and evaluating them based on price, scope, schedule, terms, qualifications and history with Fred Smith CompanyOversee the issuance of subcontracts and supplier purchase ordersEnsure the appropriate performance management of subcontractorsEnsure all site operations adhere to Company and site safety policies and protocolsEnsure Incident and Injury Free protocols are followed at all times and behaviors and culture are instilled at all levels on the projectOther duties as assigned Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (4 years) - PreferredThree to Five years job experience in an Engineer, Assistant Project Manager or Superintendent or higher field role with relevant, large scale heavy highway projectsProfessional license, certifications and contractor's licenses- preferredStrong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, HCSS Heavy Bid, HCSS Heavy JobStrong oral and written communication skillsAbility to organize and prioritize tasksStrong leadership & management skillsAbility to adapt and work effectively with diverse workforceMust have completed the 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety Course within the last 5 years Fred Smith Company is dedicated to the achievement of equality of opportunity for all its employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, marital status, age, national origin, disability, veteran status or any other protected group status under federal, state or local law.
