Summer 2024 Internship - Software Development

We are excited open a great opportunity in our Business Technology group for summer 2024! Our interns bring a fresh perspective and new energy to our teams. As a Freese and Nichols intern, you will learn and grow on real projects and be mentored by our amazing professionals. Our program was chosen as a Top 100 Internship Program by WayUp and Yello in 2023! We are thrilled to receive this recognition and want to continuously improve our program. You are a big part of that as we utilize feedback from our interns to do better every year.

These opportunities are in-office, not virtual. This is a great opportunity for a student to get experience in a dynamic and growing engineering consulting firm. Relocation and housing are NOT provided for these positions.

Responsibilities

Software Development: Write or contribute to the codebase under the supervision of development team. Includes fixing minor bugs or adding features.Bug Testing and Reporting: Tasked with testing new software applications for bugs, errors, and other issues. Includes following testing scripts, documenting problems, and reporting findings to developers or project stakeholders.Participate in Code Reviews: Participate in code reviews to learn best practices in coding and software design.Documentation: Assist in the creation and updating of technical documentation for software applications.Attend Team Meetings: Participation in team meetings to understand ongoing projects.Research and Analysis: Conducting research on new technologies, tools, or development practices that could benefit current projects.UI/UX Design: Gather user feedback, create wireframes, and prepare design documents for user interfaces.Support Development Operations (DevOps): Assisting with software release and deployment processes. Includes version control systems, configure software environments, or automate build and deployment pipelines.

Qualifications

Current student pursuing a BS or MS in:Information Technology / Information SystemsComputer Science / Information ScienceSoftware EngineeringOther related disciplines.Graduation date of August 2024 or laterProficiency in at one or more programming languages such as .NET, JavaScript, or Python.Familiarity with coding principles and the ability to write clean, efficient code.Ability to address programming challenges and think logically.Seeks to work well in a team, willingness to participate in peer code reviews, and the capability to contribute positively to a project team.

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure and understanding of modern development patterns.Demonstrates interest in software development through self-study, participation in online forums, contributions to open-source projects, or a portfolio of personal coding projects can be a significant plus.Knowledge of data structures, databases, and SQL.Student organizational involvement
