Senior Mechanical Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer in our Tucson, AZ location. In this role, you will be responsible for providing advanced engineering skills and project planning for electromechanical solutions for Garmin's Sporting Dog products.

Essential Functions

Able to complete the most difficult tasks as a Master CAD-user including the completion of complex mechanical designsKnowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining, material requirements, material performance, material limitations, etc.Specify test plans, mock up and test complex mechanical systems with complex performance requirements to validate and verify compliance with design requirementsManage basic tradeoffs, determine risk mitigation plans, determine project goal/objective feasibility, provide technical input to product development plans/concept documents, and drive process vendors to evaluate complex mechanical designs and understand riskLead explorations of new technologies and make estimates on moderately complex mechanical designs including: tooling, part cost, and design timeKnowledge of Industry and Garmin product qualification tests (environmental and others)Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and offer process improvements and author new proceduresMentors and provides guidance to less experienced Mechanical Engineers (1 & 2) on technologies, cost analysis, design techniques and problem solving process

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Aerospace Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Demonstrated knowledge and capability to use CAD software for completing complex mechanical designsDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Desired Qualifications

Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)Electronic packaging design experienceSpecific Consumer Electronics industry backgroundAdvanced CAD skills in SolidWorks and/or OnshapeExperience creating test plans and validating products throughout the design cycleIndependent ownership of a design being able to take a product from concept all the way through the product launchA passion for all things Outdoors
