Position Description

Our Senior Staff Engineer works with our Principal and Sr. Engineers to innovate and build new systems, improve, and enhance existing systems and identify new opportunities to apply your knowledge to solve critical problems. You will lead the strategy and execution of a technical roadmap that will increase the velocity of delivering products and unlock new engineering capabilities. The Cluster Management team’s mission is to bring to reality the next-generation container cluster management and orchestration platform on Kubernetes that is secure, reliable, scalable, and highly efficient. The ideal candidate has deep technical expertise in leading, designing, building, and maintaining highly secure Kubernetes based cluster management platform at scale, including operating on physical hardware or public clouds.

Position Responsibilities

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will

Focus on multiple areas and provide technical and thought leadership to the enterprise Develop and execute technical software development strategy for a variety of domains Accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions Influence and educate leadership at all levels Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams Analyze cost and forecast, incorporating them into business plans Determine and support resource requirements, evaluate operational processes, measure outcomes to ensure desired results, and demonstrate adaptability and sponsoring continuous learning Lead the design and implementation of Kubernetes based multi-cluster management platform including policy, compliance, risk, governance, operations, and support Provide useful abstractions, clear customer SLOs, and meaningful KPIs Stay at the forefront of emerging container and cluster management trends, technologies, and best practices, and apply this knowledge to enhance GEICO’s IaaS/PaaS strategies Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvements Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including PaaS, Security, Datacenter engineering, SRE, and application teams to ensure the seamless integration and alignment of solutions with organizational goals Build resilient and scalable architecture, driving innovation and cost efficiency

Qualifications

Experience partnering with engineering teams and transferring research to production Experience solving analytical problems with quantitative approaches Experience with software development, software delivery lifecycle, application modernization, DevOps, Service/Infrastructure as Service and Operations Proficiency in Operating Systems, Linux, Virtual Machines, Container (Docker/Containerd), Cluster Management (Kubernetes) technologies including running on private and public cloud infrastructure Experience in Multi-cluster networking based on service mesh like ISTIO, Linkerd, Envoy or Consul Experience in Multi-cluster metrics, observability, and operations with frameworks such as Grafana, Prometheus, Jaeger Experience with API, Microservices, network and security architectures and design patterns Experience in security protocols and products: Understanding of Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth Experience with Azure DevOps Operational Framework & Azure Network (Subscription, Security zoning, etc.) is a plus Experience building the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current enterprise systems Fluency and recent coding experience with at least one modern language such as Java, Go, or Python Demonstrated ability to design and implement resilient, scalable, and efficient solutions Relevant cloud and container certifications are a huge plus Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating security risks and vulnerabilities Excellent communication skills, able to communicate complete technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment and maintains enterprise quality

Experience

10+ years of professional experience in building IaaS cluster management platform based on Kubernetes or equivalent orchestration platform running on private and public clouds 8+ years of experience in design, architecture and implementation of highly secure, scalable, and reliable enterprise grade platforms and applications 6+ years of experience with open-source frameworks is desired 4+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or Bare metal

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience

Annual Salary

$82,000.00 - $261,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
